Facilities Engineering is responsible for university stewardship, which includes, but is not limited to the stewardship of engineered systems on campus, maintenance of Design and Construction Standards, Construction Document archiving, and project design reviews for QA and standards compliance.
Facilities Engineering also provides project management services that cover engineered systems infrastructure, system intensive building renovations, small building renovations up to $1M (typically a result of an initial assessment), local approvals efforts, energy conservation projects, and projects relative to research collaboration.
Facilities Engineering manages maintenance programs for campus-wide systems such as bridges, generators, elevators, roofs, structures, pavement, and more.

   

Position Summary:

This position will reward a flexible professional who wants to join an organization that takes on big challenges with bold projects. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be heavily involved in the shaping and execution of the University’s ongoing shift towards climate neutrality and new sustainable technologies. This includes not only a deep involvement in the generation and distribution of energy throughout campus, but also the opportunity to be involved at the building level through the construction of new sustainable facilities and deep energy retrofits.

Serve as the senior level technical resource in electrical engineering, specifically subject matter expert in low and medium voltage electrical distribution and building electrical systems. Serve as a Co-Team Leader in one of the cross functional work areas. Co-Team Leaders will be the primary point of contact for a particular Facilities Engineering work area or service area. The Co-Team Leader will manage customer and stakeholder relationships and work area expectations. Serve as the University liaison to Authorities Having Jurisdiction. Prepare drawings, specifications and construction documents for maintenance, repair, and alteration projects that relate to engineered systems. Supervise the development of project designs or construction plans. Provide highly technical engineering services including condition assessments, life cycle costing, hazard analysis, risk analysis, code analysis and feasibility analysis; write complex technical reports and present results to clients. Provide leadership to a diverse group of experts throughout the organization in developing and updating University design & construction standards relating to low voltage electrical, fire alarm, emergency/legally required/standby generators, lighting, and medium voltage distribution systems. Manage program(s). Work to include providing technical assistance to the campus shops personnel with trouble-shooting electrical system issues, assisting Maintenance Management in quantifying equipment and electrical system life cycles, determining replacement costs, and prioritizing capital replacements. Work with internal and external design teams to establish and maintain principles for renovations and new construction. Manage electrical maintenance programs through the management of University personnel and the hiring and management of outside consultants and contractors.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.

• A minimum of 10 years applicable technical experience or, equivalent education/experience of eleven credit years as recognized by New York State towards licensure in Professional Engineering (refer to http://www.op.nysed.gov/peexpchart.pdf ), as demonstrated by application to the NYS Education Department, Office of the Professions.

• Professional Engineering License in New York State is required. 

• Working knowledge of project management and/or construction management skills, tools, and techniques. 

• Working knowledge of the appropriate engineering codes and standards in discipline (including NYSBC, NEC, NFPA, IES, FM Global.) 

• Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective customer relationships within a team approach. 

• Ability to work on multiple projects and designs with varying scope and multiple stages of completion. 

• Be able to use computer in variety of business and technical programs (such as Word, Excel, e-mail, CAD, Project.)  

• Experience with short circuit, arc flash, protective coordination calculation software, electrical modeling, and lighting modeling software.

• Experienced in design of building and electrical distribution power systems.

• Must have and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Management.

• Professional member status in related professional association.

• LEED Certifications.

• Experience managing design and construction projects within a university environment. 

• Experience with Easypower electrical modeling, AGi32 lighting modeling, and Revit software programs.
