Primary Purpose of Department
The School of Professional (SPS) reports to the Division of Academic Affairs, reporting to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. SPS works collaboratively with departments, colleges, and academic support units to ensure integrated partnerships for enrollment growth, student success, and faculty effectiveness in teaching.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Senior Director of Program Management and Learner Engagement leads and oversees three vital areas within the School of Professional Studies: Program Management, Enrollment & Student Services, and the Marketing and Communications team.
Responsibilities encompass supervising integrated programs that involve developing and managing a diverse educational portfolio. This includes overseeing the management, assessment, and continuous enhancement of online academic and professional credit programs, as well as Summer Term initiatives and youth programs.
Moreover, this role guides the attainment of enrollment objectives and student service metrics for academic credit, professional credit, and youth programs, adhering to university policies and regulations while upholding the highest ethical standards. Additionally, this position is instrumental in crafting, executing, and implementing marketing, communication, recruitment, and student services strategies aimed at driving increased enrollments in programs within the School of Professional Studies (SPS).
Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Senior Director of Program Management and Learner Engagement oversees key areas in the School of Professional Studies: Program Management, Enrollment & Student Services, and Marketing & Communications.
Responsibilities include managing a diverse educational portfolio, creating new online programs, overseeing online academic and professional credit program delivery, assessment, and improvement, as well as Summer Term initiatives.
Additionally, this role leads enrollment objectives and student service metrics, adhering to university policies ethically. They also drive increased student enrollments by strategizing and implementing marketing and engagement communication plans for SPS programs.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Requires a minimum of a master’s degree. Requires a minimum of seven- to ten years of work experience directly relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Requires significant work experience and/or knowledge in the capacity of higher education administration and senior executive leadership related to the development (needs identification, program design, course building), marketing/promotion (advertising, sales, recruitment), delivery (facility/logistics planning, evaluation), enrollment management, student support, and financial management (budgeting and pricing) of credit and noncredit instructional programs in online, blended, and in-person modalities.
  • Requires significant supervisory and/or team-leading experience, including successful experience managing managers and large-scale organizational structures.
  • Requires excellent research, analytical, strategic-thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills; excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills; ability to develop long-range goals and objectives while at the same time managing a great deal of detail across multiple projects and tasks; ability to work effectively both as a member of a team and as an individual responsible for producing results.

  • Applicants are required to be self-sufficient in the use of a computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail applications.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Experience working for an organization whose budget is determined by its generation of income (through sales of programs/services/products);
  • Experience at a graduate-level institution of higher education; familiarity with the Charlotte market.

  • Applicants must be licensed drivers or otherwise able to travel independently by car as required for effective performance in the position.
