Summary

Come build the future of healthcare with us! We're looking for a hands-on strategic communicator and storyteller to spread the word about Baylor College of Medicine. The Sr. Director of Philanthropic Communications will lead all daily activities of the philanthropic communications team functions – developing and leading exceptionally-written proposals, case statements and editorial content (both print and digital) for Baylor College of Medicine. This role requires consistent individual writing contribution as well as the effective leadership and development of a productive writing team. It also requires proactive collaboration with colleagues across the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs.

Job Duties
  • Develops and manages the implementation of the organization’s philanthropic communications and messaging strategies—partnering with internal and external stakeholders—to raise awareness of and support Baylor’s overarching vision, impact, successes, results and strategic funding needs.
  • Oversees editorial direction—writing, editing, and developing content, including proposals, case statements, philanthropic publications and online content—audience research and analysis, segmentation and tailored messaging strategy and distribution of Baylor’s promotional content across all communication channels and platforms.
  • Provides strong leadership, coaching, guidance and thoughtful delegation to team members and ensures high quality and accurate deliverables.
  • Serves as lead editor as well as research and write compelling, persuasive and inspiring fundraising communications materials.
  • Conducts thoughtful interviews with internal and external constituents to effectively tell the College’s story.
  • Conducts research and analysis to understand target audiences, their communication preferences, identify and tailor key messages to target audiences.
  • Organizes and promotes high-profile news and gifts to donor constituency, in partnership with BCM Communications and Marketing department, and manage the editorial calendar for the planning and timely execution of all communications activities.
  • Develops and implements strong communication and marketing KPIs and regularly report on results.
  • Works closely with the creative services team to ensure that all written content is compelling and engaging, while strategically capitalizing on opportunities for enhanced visual presentation.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, mass communications, English or related field.
  • Six years of relevant experience, including team management and in philanthropic communications.
  • Experience in healthcare industry or higher education.
  • Possess deep knowledge and skills that include: exceptional writing and editing talent, including vocabulary, grammar and style; the ability to organize complex information into cohesive communications; understanding of audience segmentation; familiarity with multimedia communications.
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously, work with and direct a variety of people, effectively plan, set and adhere to goals and deadlines, lead and motivate a team. Must be a strong communicator, both verbally and written.
  • Must be a self-motivated, highly organized manager.
