DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Advancement and Alumni Engagement Individual Giving team leads the strategic process for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals – including alumni, friends, parents, and families – to support educational and research programs across the University. This position will support the Office of Regional, International, and Parent Advancement’s work to involve parents through communications, events, volunteer opportunities, and philanthropy to make the university experience as positive for parents as it is for students. This position will report to the Assistant Vice President for Regional, International and Parent Advancement.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Responsible for strategic goal setting and management of engagement activities for a specific school, unit, or program.
  • Fosters and strengthens ties with the University's alumni, friends, parents, and families.
  • Oversees the development, marketing, and management of the events/activities coordinated through the designated program.
  • Leads event planning activities and program development directed toward parents, and families.
  • Oversees team efforts to increase parent engagement through participating in programming and events and implementing appropriate technology and services.
  • Builds relationships among prospective donors, parents, families, and volunteers to support programs and priorities.
  • Builds relationships with faculty, administrators, deans, and division/University leadership to develop, interpret, and align priorities of the school/unit with donor goals/interests.
  • Develops and oversees writing/production of appropriate fundraising materials including, but not limited to, case statements, brochures, solicitation letters, gift proposals, appreciation letters, donor reports, and campaign status reports.
  • Develops narrative or design content for appeals and communications.
  • Coordinates logistics for appeal distribution.
  • Manages and coordinates volunteers and leaders through board meetings, events and other activities.
  • Develops and advances University relationships both within the division, and other campus offices, schools/divisions.
  • Serves as the primary liaison and engages University and division Leadership for participation.
  • Serves as primary spokesperson for the school/program on issues relating to initiatives, program assessments, leadership development, donor services, and communications.
  • Enforces the maintenance of information on selected donors and prospects including contact reports in CRM system.
  • Communicates in ways that are donor-centric, while furthering the mission of Emory.
  • Travels to meet with donors and manage programming as needed.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and seven years of experience in higher education, development, fundraising, healthcare, or equivalent experience in a non-profit institution.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: 

In addition to the duties outlined above, the Senior Director may be required to:

  • Meet division metrics for visit preparation, qualification, contact reports, visits, referrals, and accurate coding using the CRM system.
  • Represent the department, school/unit, division, or University.
  • Establish and maintain meaningful relationships with parent and families through ongoing cultivation and strategic stewardship.
  • Leverage relationships and connections to strategically engage individual prospects or groups/networks.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Successful candidates will possess strong organizational, written and verbal communication, and effective presentation skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, navigate a complex work environment, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience managing volunteers and events, leading teams, working independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals, with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Experience managing budgets and financial reports, working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
  • Master’s level degree.
  • Prior experience in advancement, fundraising, alumni engagement, non-profit, or a university setting.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
