Reporting to the Ohio State Online Enrollment leader and serving as a leader and expert for all market and student research, the Senior Director of Online Market Research will lead and manage all market research for online programs including primary and secondary research for new programs, feedback on current programs via student lifecycle assessments, competitive analyses, personas, advertising and any ad hoc research that may be identified.

The Senior Director of Online Market Research will be a senior market researcher able to shape the online enrollment strategy and portfolio. This person will be well versed in how to identify research needs and deliver intended research objectives. They will lead, or manage through their team, identifying the correct type of research to be conducted, the right sample as well as any over-sample needs, find the supplier, and run all the research including reviewing the data tables for accuracy and analysis. 

This person will have a thorough understanding of market research concepts to proactively identify areas where strategy refinement is needed, and new program opportunities exist. They will analyze, synthesize and make recommendations about the market landscape and prospective student and current student feedback. They will establish a regular rhythm for competitive assessments to ensure each program is addressed on an ongoing basis. A critical component will also be developing an understanding of current students and programs to assess differentiators and potential areas to address. Research needs will continue to evolve so the Senior Director of Online Market Research will need to be flexible and creative to think through how to best deliver new objectives and needs.

The Senior Director of Online Market Research will work closely with the online marketing team to develop initial marketing strategies and refine potential student targeting for new online program launches along with continual marketing refinement for existing programs. The Senior Director will also work with other functions as research arises. This person will direct internal research efforts across the organization in a collaborative way to ensure each function is having their research needs delivered. This could also include operational assessments and employee/organizational development needs. The Senior Director will work externally across the Ohio State enterprise on research needs for online prospects, student, programs and overall online brand listening. The Senior Director will have the ability to train and teach new hires and more junior members in research and data techniques.


Education and Experience

Required: Bachelor’s degree required. 10+ years in market research, psychology or related field. Experience in market research in primary, or direct consumer, research; secondary research and analysis; data analysis; strategy development; identifying the correct type of research and sample creation, and working across levels and teams internally and externally. Broad knowledge and expertise in researching a specific target audience, concept testing, A/B testing, lifecycle assessment, equity research, managing deadlines and budget, and collaborating across a large organization.

Desired: Master’s degree in relevant discipline preferred. 15+ years of experience preferred. Experience in personas, higher education, online program landscape, and working with senior levels within an organization preferred. Deeper knowledge of broad knowledge and expertise in required.
