Job Summary | The Texas Biomedical Device Center and the Center for BrainHealth are actively engaged in innovative clinical studies with the potential to change practice and benefit the lives of millions, enhance UTD’s reputation as a leading clinical science translation institute, and bring in significant new external research funding. The Medical Science Research Director will provide assistance and expertise to Faculty, Staff, and Students in areas including but not limited to clinical grantsmanship and funding, internal and external collaborations and partnerships, protocol development and execution, and regulatory agencies. The Medical Science Research Director will play a vital role in securing clinical research funding through activities such as study recruitment, safety monitoring, risk management, biomarker collection, ethics oversight, grant preparation and submission, clinical trial protocol development, and regulatory interactions with bodies including the UTD Institutional Review Board, Defense Department Human Research Protections Office, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Additionally, this role may involve providing expertise to support other clinical trial initiatives across UTD. Office environment. Long hours at computer. May be required to work after normal business hours to attend off-site events. Travel may be required. |
Minimum Education and Experience | Bachelor’s degree with ten years of work experience in related field. |
Preferred Education and Experience | MD or DO with current Texas medical license and ABMS or AOA board certification with at least 15 years of medical practice experience, and at least 7 years of experience as a PI or Co-PI in clinical trials. Master’s Degree in Clinical Research is preferred. Previous experience with the FDA, either through IND or IDE submissions. History of successful grant submission, particularly to the NIH. Institutional service within an IRB. Ability to connect preclinical and translational researchers with clinicians interested in and experienced at executing studies. Excellent public speaking skills preferred. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Assist and support researchers in developing protocols and competitive grant proposals for translational and clinical research projects. Foster clinical research collaborations and partnerships within the seven schools, centers and institutes at UT Dallas. Forge relationships with external institutions, medical centers, and industry partners to expand clinical research opportunities. Provide guidance and expertise in writing protocols, IRB submissions, grants, FDA IND’s and IDE’s, and clinical manuscripts. Conduct clinical research educational events for both faculty and students. Update faculty via faculty meetings, emails, and face to face meetings regarding the services, opportunities, and offerings of the clinical trials center. Serve as a resource for the IRB in complex medical clinical trials, regarding approvals, modifications, and adverse events. |
