Position Description

The Sr. Director of Development for Communications and Grants for UofL Health will direct and execute communication and grant efforts to increase fundraising and private support for UofL Hospital, Brown Cancer Center, Jewish Hospital, Frazier Rehab Institute, Mary Elizabeth Hospital, Peace Hospital, UofL Health Shelbyville, ULP, and other UofL Health providers and clinics. They are responsible for 1) Designing and directing all systems, processes, projects, and content related to UofL Health's philanthropic grants, including research, writing, assessment, and reporting. 2) Designing and directing all systems, processes, projects and content related to UofL Health's philanthropic communications, including campaign messaging, web-content, and prospect and donor communications, including solicitations and stewardship. Reports to the Vice President of Philanthropy, UofL Health.

Responsibilities

  • Direct philanthropic grants:
    • Organize, collect, research, identify and draft all grant applications and reports to support healthcare needs, and collaborate with advancement colleagues on potential funders with shared interests and giving history.
    • Manage a portfolio of foundations that have a history of supporting healthcare; submit applications, and report outcomes. Serve as liaison between development officers, funders, and UofL Health leadership, and coordinate all efforts with university advancement.
  • Direct communications:
    • Direct philanthropic communications including targeted solicitations, web content, stewardship reports, cases for support and community information, in collaboration with advancement staff, UofL Health marketing staff, and ULH leadership.
    • Draft all content and case statements for UofL Health fundraising efforts across all hospitals, and serve as a liaison between UofL Health and UofL development officers, and hospital leadership.
    • Direct the creation and on-going maintenance of landing pages for specific philanthropic projects and endeavors.
    • Work with various ULH entities to direct the creation of both print and electronic newsletters, solicitations, and reports.
    • Research, coordinate and create content for philanthropic reports, communication, and correspondence.
    • Create donor pitch and prospect packets for fundraisers and community volunteers and champions, as well as audiovisual presentations and updates on impact and ongoing projects and priority areas.
    • Assist the vice president and front-line fundraisers with gift proposals and agreements.
  • Collaborate with other University Advancement staff to ensure a donor-centric approach is taken so full consideration of a donor's or organization's multiple interests are taken into account.
  • Assist Vice President in creating a philanthropic strategic plan for each of the ULH entities. Engage the leadership of the various entities in order to identify strengths, needs, and prospective areas for private gifts or grants. Update plans on an annual or biannual basis.
  • Maintain a calendar of philanthropic efforts and assist Vice President in communicating their vision and goals and aligning this to funder priorities.
  • Supervise Prospect Research Manager and ensure strategic donor communications.
  • Project manage and supervise teams as their work relates to grants and communications efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Occasional evening and weekend work as well as some travel will be expected.

Competencies include:

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom.
  • Proficient in at least one web content management system and one integrated marketing software.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Well-versed and equipped to work on site or remotely as required
