Overview

University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.

The Senior Director of Development, University Life and Athletics, will create and lead a development program focused on engaging, identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors to support University Life programs and the NYU Athletic Department. Development work will be focused on prospects capable of making 6-, 7-, and 8-figure gifts. Develop a strategic fundraising and alumni engagement plan. Provide direction, mentoring, and professional support for a team of Development professionals assigned to specific areas of University Life and Athletics and be accountable for the teamâ™s overall fundraising outcomes. Conduct a minimum of 80 engagements and/or meetings in person or virtually for the purpose of qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, with progressively ambitious fundraising goals. Attendance at Athletic events will be required in order to advance internal and external relationships that enhance fundraising and alumni engagement efforts. Partner with leadership to draft and execute development communications, determining priorities for external and internal meetings, and crafting briefings, proposals, giving materials, and contact reports. Serve as a liaison to key donors and prospects, volunteer leaders, and other critical members of the departmentâ™s community (alumni, parents, campus visitors). Partner with the Athletics Alumni Relations team to ensure athletics alumni and friends have opportunities to engage with NYU Athletics that also support the fundraising ambitions of the department.

Responsibilities

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree
Required Experience:
7+ years relevant experience in fundraising, communications, fast-paced and high-level writing, events planning, donor relations or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Experience:
10+ years related experience at a higher education institution

Knowledge of college sports, NCAA athletics department, NYU and its sports history
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to quickly adapt to multiple voices, strong interpersonal skills, relationship building skills, judgment and discretion in communicating sensitive and/or confidential information

Responsive with the ability to remain focused in a fast-paced environment, and ability to prioritize independently

Ability to take initiative and collaborate with others

Working knowledge of various software applications including MS Office Suite

This position will involve national travel as University policy allows and is reasonably justified towards building relationships and developing philanthropy and alumni engagement

Knowledge and intellectual curiosity and interest in topics related to the University's funding priorities, engaging conversationalist, active listener, ability to demonstrate empathy

Demonstrated ability to identify main audiences, determine the best way to communicate information to them, and develop and implement a communication and solicitation plan

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with University stakeholders, alumni, and corporate partners and use these relationships to develop new business opportunities

Demonstrated skills to establish goals for soliciting funds, develop policies for collection and safeguarding of contributions, and coordinate disbursement of funds


Qualifications

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $150,000.00 to USD $190,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
