What we want

The Senior Director provides direct leadership for the Counseling and Psychological Services Center along with programmatic oversight for administration, budgets, services and quality care. This position oversees a growing, dynamic and diverse counseling and mental health services staff and clinical trainees. This position has responsibility for all student mental health programs and services, including multi-track counseling, consultation, outreach, and working in an integrated health care model that includes behavioral health. What you need to know

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s or doctoral degree in Counseling and Guidance, Social Work, Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, other specialty related to job function

  • Minimum of seven years of experience as a professional providing direct client care

  • Minimum of five years of experience in a leadership capacity in a mental health clinic

  • Licensed as a mental health professional with the minimum of a Master’s degree in counseling or social work

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Licensed or eligible for immediate licensure as a Texas Licensed Psychologist, Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

  • Must maintain Texas licensure for continued employment:

  • Ability to mitigate risk through the adherence to university and system policies and procedures, Texas state and Federal laws, and guidelines applicable to the provision of mental health services and clinical practice, including those pertaining to accreditation and staff licensure

  • Ability to think critically and use a data-driven approach to evaluate information and implement timely decisions/recommendations that anticipate the cost/benefits, risks, and organizational impact of decisions

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree in a mental health or field related to the leadership position

  • Experience in a college mental health setting

  • Experience in an integrated practice setting

  • Minimum of two years of experience with direct supervisory responsibilities for professional staff

  • Licensed as a mental health professional with a doctoral psychology or related degree

  • The ideal candidate will possess innovative methods and strategies to address high demand for mental health services on a college campus, addressing the layers of care needed to successfully meet the acuity and service model demands of a University with over 74,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students who are enrolled in multiple locations and sites

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience working with, and relating to, college students and a deep dedication to improving the mental health of this specific population

  • Competency in PointNClick or other electronic health record software

  • Experience developing and teaching educational programming and workshops for crisis intervention training, mental health, and trauma-informed care

  • Experience with strategic planning and performance-based quality improvement

  • Experience leading through large scale change and provide successful motivation of the staff and oversight of the budget and space


  • Executive Leadership - Leads collaboratively and motivates others to engage in strategic planning, evidence-based and outcomes driven mental care in an integrated health setting. Fosters a highly collaborative, respectful, team-based, and quality driven counseling and mental health service setting for college students and the broader community.

  • Administration - Serves with expertise oversight of compliance, risk management, quality assurance, budget, policy, rules, operations and accreditation.

  • Supervision - Motivate, supervises, sets performance expectations, and supports career progression of a diverse staff.

  • Direct Care - Serves as a mental health professional in the provision of counseling, consultation, group, outreach, crisis management and response services.

  • Other Duties - Responsive to the leadership needs of students, staff, UHS, A&M Health, Texas A&M University and System, the community and the profession.
