Senior Director Marketing Content

Job Location: Remote, Adelphi Maryland

University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks a Senior Director Content Marketing for the Office of Marketing. The Senior Director Content Marketing, which reports to the Associate Vice President, Brand Marketing Communications, must demonstrate a high level of copy, content and leadership expertise and will write and lead the development of engaging content, in written and visual formats, across channels. The candidate must have a proven track record of generating successful data-driven content strategy and content authoring. The Senior Director Content Marketing is expected to maintain up-to-date expert knowledge of UMGC programs and services and marketing strategies as well as content marketing and publishing trends, search engine optimization, CMS and DAM utilization, and higher education marketing.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Lead the copy and content strategy team to a high standard of quality, performance and efficiency as demonstrated by data-driven metrics.
  • Lead cross-functional teams including SEO and Analytics, Web Production, Web Development, Design, Video, subject-matter experts and stakeholders to achieve the goals of select, specific content-centered initiatives.
  • Produce lead-generating and actionable content marketing plans and seasonal content calendars.
  • Make data-driven SEO decisions to draft and continually improve and optimize copy & other forms of content such as video, to positively impact reach and effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with subject matter experts throughout the university including academic affairs, student affairs, global military operations and others in order to research, discern and convey compelling messaging to prospective students.
  • Represent and advocate for the voice of the customer and the brand in all initiatives and university relationships.
  • Demonstrate exceptional writing and editing skills to create and publish original lead-generating and traffic-driving content in broadcast, print, digital and social advertising as well as in collateral and on UMGC's web channels.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning in marketing, creative writing, communications, or a related field.
  • 10 or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Proven track record of developing content plans and writing compelling copy that generates leads; proven editorial skills and mastery of the English language.
  • Applicants are required to present a portfolio of published work.
  • History of leading direct reports to excellence; demonstrated coaching skills; capable of leading and inspiring a diverse group to achieve goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships across cross functional teams.
  • Desire to continue learning and adapting in a constantly changing digital communications environment.
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically as well as creatively.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to execute and manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of Web Content Management Systems (AEM is a plus), Digital Asset Management systems (Assets is a plus), project management systems (Workfront is a plus) and Google Analytics.
