Senior Director – Keller Science Action Center, The Field Museum
The Field Museum (the Museum) is searching for a passionate conservationist to lead the Keller Science Action Center (the Center) as its new Senior Director. The Center translates museum science and collections into lasting results for conservation and quality of life. The Senior Director provides leadership to generate significant and measurable advances in community-centered conservation, particularly in the tropics (currently Andes Amazon) and Chicago Region. They will oversee and pursue effective strategies, decision-making, operations, communication, fundraising, and partnerships of the Center to achieve visible conservation results on the ground.
The Senior Director leads the interdisciplinary staff of the Center and coordinates closely with other areas of the Museum to integrate community engagement and conservation action across the Museum. The Senior Director also plays an important public role, creating opportunities to highlight the work of the Museum in conservation and cultivating the engagement and interest of potential and existing partners and supporters.
Candidates will have demonstrated strong leadership with a record of commitment to the social and biological aspects of conservation and a track record of demonstrable impact on the ground. As a strong communicator they will possess the ability to tell the Center’s story and have a successful history of securing public and private funding for conservation endeavors. A proven commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity is essential. Proficiency in one or more languages that align with program needs, particularly in Spanish and Portuguese, would be helpful. An advanced degree in environment conservation, social science, or a related field, or extended experience in fieldwork and conservation results, preferably in the Andes Amazon and/or Chicago regions is desired.
