The Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (NHWSN) Senior Director of Communications and Marketing will develop and implement an integrated strategic communications, marketing and engagement plan that will advance NHWSN strategic goals and objectives; amplifies its voice; and enhances the NHWSN brand to broaden its impact and enrich its reputation.

 

Serves as the school’s chief storyteller by writing effective print, digital, and video communications, including writing, editing, proofreading, design, and photography for the School’s website, social media channels, blogs, newsletters, brochures, magazines, videos, invitations, events programs, letters, awards nominations, reports, proposals, e-communications, press materials, advertising, and other marketing materials.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

  • Serves as an advisor to the Leadership Team of NHWSN and effectively represents the Dean's vision and the school's priorities, high-level messages, and high-profile projects and events.
  • Reporting to the School's Chief Engagement Officer, is both a strategic leader and a tactical contributor.
  • Leads a team of staff and contractors to ensure collaboration and maximum efficiency.
  • Manages strategic public relations planning and implementation including, media relations, publications and periodicals, crises communication and issues management.
  • Works in partnership with the University's Office of Communications and Public Affairs and the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Communications Office, leads experiential events, encourages alumni engagement and philanthropic support.
  • Determines fiscal requirements, prepares budgetary recommendations, and manages expenditures of budgeted funds for approved communications and events activities of the School.
  • Prepares informative materials, scripts, speeches, presentations, and other communications for the school and its leadership team.
  • Maintains broad oversight of the front-facing information, visual display, and functioning of the NHWSN website and social media channels.
  • Coordinates the School's video marketing initiatives and dissemination.
  • Ability to learn and utilize important software packages digital applications, including Slate CRM, Survey Monkey, Asana, Delighted, etc.
  • Creates targeted, consistent messages to be used across platforms aimed at increasing the brand position of the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing.
  • Coordinates awards nominations for faculty, staff, and students for national awards programs to strengthen the school's reputation.
  • Coordinates influencer campaigns that showcase the School's many strengths.
  • Enhances and strengthens the School's engagement with multiple audiences, including potential degree program candidates and Emory Nursing education participants, educators and thought leaders in the field, and other influencers.
  • Effectively collaborates with the Assistant Dean for Admissions and Financial Aid to strategically market and promote the School's academic programs to national audiences.
  • Markets Emory's academic programs to prospective students using digital communications including social media campaigns and email marketing campaigns.
  • Oversees and creates communications to prospective students, admitted students, deposited students, and enrolled students.
  • Develops creative and measurable marketing approaches to attract top students.
  • External Communications and Media Relations
  • Develops relationships with journalists and oversees and implements new methods for media relations efforts.
  • Manages media relations for the school to ensure accurate and timely coverage of news, research, and events related to the school.
  • Coordinates media interviews, press releases, news conferences, ceremonies, and other public relations events.
  • Actively pitches stories to media outlets in collaborations with the University's news team. 
  • Deep understanding of marketing analytics and can evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of communications and marketing strategies.
  • Determines core marketing messages and implements market research.
  • Conducts market research, including analysis of peer institutions and surveys of internal audiences, peers, and alumni.
  • Incorporates metrics into projects and assists in evaluating the effectiveness of all activities, and proposes, revises, and oversees activities as necessary to achieve successful efforts.
  • Helps lead memorable events for students and their families for graduation, awards ceremonies, and pinning ceremonies.
  • Oversees communications materials for special events, including scripting, programs, invitations, and event memos.
  • Assists with other school-based events. Leadership and Project Management
  • Leads day-to-day operations of communications and marketing team.
  • Works closely with the Dean and Dean's office to effectively and efficiently develop communications required in response to crisis situations.
  • Serves as the School's liaison with the Office of Communications and Public Affairs, Woodruff Health Sciences Center Communications Office, Emory Healthcare Marketing, and external vendors including photographers, videographers, writers, etc.
  • Serves on or leads various school or university-wide committees, advisory groups, task force, or projects as appropriate.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, journalism or related field seven years of experience in writing, editing or public relations OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Master's degree, Accreditation in Public Relations, or Professional Certified Marketer preferred.
  • Leadership experience in a complex organization working extensively with social media, website content, graphic design newsletters, issues management and crisis communications is essential.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to translate specialized knowledge, including research, into a style of language and graphic presentation that appeals to diverse audiences.
  • Proven track record as an inclusive leader skilled in leading, motivating and developing a diverse team.
  • Superior interpersonal and organizational skills are needed, along with a demonstrated ability to think strategically and critically.
  • Must be able to consistently exercise sound judgment and possess strong skills in the areas of leadership, and people and fiscal management.
  • Proven track record of moving projects forward while anticipating future demands and opportunities.
  • Experience in in-person events, Zoom webinars, and hybrid events.
  • Experience in digital storytelling, with a strong understanding of best practices in print and digital publication.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
