Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Director, Building Operations, performs duties related to general building maintenance, student support and maintenance of all dental and laboratory equipment at the San Francisco Campus and Union City Dental Clinic.
Emphasis: Clinic support, maintenance, repair and students, staff and faculty support for all clinics on 2nd and 3rd floor (pediatrics, endodontics, faculty practice, orthodontics, oral surgery, x-ray, hygiene)

Essential Functions
  • Assess, maintain and repair dental equipment to include clinic units, chairs, lights, air compressors, grinding wheels, cavitrons, scalers, torches, burn-out ovens, and plaster-trap sinks; maintain and repair clinic and laboratory lighting fixtures, locks, and lockers.

  • Maintain x-ray equipment, alcohol supply, treatment support labs, medical gas supply, bio-waste and clean dental water supply.

  • Perform daily inspection of clinic to ensure readiness for student and faculty use; report larger issues to Director or Manager as needed; monitor cleanliness of the clinical spaces and report any service needs; advise of necessary changes to existing policies and procedures.

  • Enter and maintain records of all inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs.

  • Provide support and coordination for practicals, exams and courses in clinical spaces.
  • Interact with equipment manufacturers and vendors to ensure proper use and reliability of equipment.

  • Perform general building support and facility maintenance to include general work requests and coordination of repairs with university departments and/or vendors.

  • Order and obtain necessary parts and materials required for the efficient operation and maintenance of the clinical areas according to established procedures.

  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness of the facility.

  • Provide leadership to other staff in department.

  • Provide coverage for other staff members as directed.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director or Manager, Building Operations or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • General facility maintenance and repairs
  • Basic Fire, life safety and emergency procedures
  • Microsoft Office Suite, email, and internet

Ability to:
  • Use tools associated with general building and equipment repairs
  • Keep accurate records and maintain inventory of replacement parts needed for all equipment
  • Utilize online work order system and email to communicate and manage work
  • Accurately follow verbal and written instructions and provide clearly written and understandable reports

Experience:
  • Minimum of three years of experience in overseeing equipment repair and maintenance

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Licenses:
  • Valid California Class C driver’s license

Working Conditions:
  • Position is full-time, eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week
  • Position requires incumbent to drive on university business and must also be able to meet the University’s fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University’s insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
  • Incumbent must be able to work varying shifts to include evenings and weekends or in the event of an emergency
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of:
  • Electrical and plumbing basics
  • Compressed air and vacuum systems
  • Dental equipment repair and terminology
  • Building management systems, work order software and event management systems

Ability to:
  • Work independently and prioritize assignments to complete projects in a timely manner
  • Project a professional image, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and communicate in collegial and professional manner with administrators, faculty, staff, students and public
  • Take initiative in time management, organize assignments and set priorities to meet multiple deadlines

Experience:
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in an academic, higher education or professional environment desirable

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Trade, technical or vocational training is highly desirable.

  • Position requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, climbing and reaching during majority of working hours

  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens may reasonably be anticipated; personal protective equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure to routine or limited infectious agents
  • Position requires extensive use of personal protective equipment including but not limited to eyewear, hearing protection, and gloves
  • Use of ladders of various heights and types can be expected
  • Position requires lifting objects of up to 60 pounds
Hiring Range $30- $37 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
