Senior Data Technician

The University of Virginia's College at Wise located in southwestern Virginia is seeking applicants for a Senior Data Technician.

Job Profile Summary: Collect, interpret, document, and summarize descriptive, analytical, and evaluate data in support of research and informational gathering activities.  Provide descriptive data analysis and reports, and verify the integrity of the data.

Job Description:

  • Identify problems with database management policies and procedures and provide input into their revision.
  • Query, validate and manipulate data from enterprise systems and warehouse environments using tools such as SQL, InfoMaker, Excel, and/or SPSS.
  • Clearly communicate findings to non-technical audiences orally, in written form, and graphically as appropriate using tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Provide direction or assistance to users of information regarding data requirements and status of paperwork.
  • Establish procedures for the procurement of data through observations, interviews, and analysis of records.
  • Recommend new methods for collection and document of data and revise procedural manuals.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: 30 college credits hours in computer science, management information systems, and/or software engineering
  • Experience:  work experience in institutional research and assessment using SQL, student information system, and databases
  • Licensure: none
  • Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
