We are hiring a Senior Data Architect to join our IT team. The Senior Data Architect is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing the overall data architecture strategy for the University. In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our data architecture meets the needs of the business and is aligned with our overall technology strategy. You will be seen as the overall leader and point person within the division of IT related to data, data governance, data usage, and the vision for the use of data at Creighton.

 

This is a key role that will work to accelerate the campus data maturity by providing recommendations that foster data-driven decision-making and empowering University stakeholders through the availability of data.

 


Key Responsibilities
  • Establish a campus-wide data architecture roadmap, in partnership with other groups including within IT, the Analytics and Institutional Research group, University relations, student life, human resources, and others to guide data-driven decision-making across the university.

  • Partner with University stakeholders to drive the campus data strategy forward.

  • Lead the development efforts for the University data integration layer / lake, establish a best practice for Creighton, design and implement new data models, and ensure the University data environment has a high level of end-user adoption.

  • Develop and document a deep understanding of vast data sources of the University and know how, when, and which data to use to solve problems.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring consistency and accuracy of data.

  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and technologies in data architecture, data warehousing, and business intelligence.

 


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field; Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the following areas:

    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure platform services and tools such as Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, etc.

    • Experience using APIs to create reusable data services including Azure API Management.

    • Experience with ETL tools including Talend (preferred), Informatica, etc.

    • Data modeling and data architecture experience with all types of modeling.

    • Designing and supporting a large-scale data warehouse using Snowflake, Google, Teradata, Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, or similar.

    • Experience driving enterprise-wide data architecture and development of roadmaps.

    • Extensive knowledge of data governance, master data management, and metadata management.

    • Extensive knowledge of designing, coding, testing, and maintaining database objects, tables, views, packages, functions, procedures, indexes, sequences, and triggers.

    • Knowledge of data validation concepts and advanced SQL.

    • Assessing current operational environment and making recommendations.

    • Extensive experience developing high-level data architecture documents such as diagrams of current state data architecture, diagrams of future state data architecture, diagrams of data flows between systems, and definitions of approaches to get from current to future data.

  • Experience working in higher education is preferred.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
