The Senior Data Analyst, under general supervision, is responsible for providing overall direction and management for the gathering, compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting of data for the Texas Sea Grant College Program. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Four years of experience in a data analyst position

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2-5 years experience in a data analyst position

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Texas A&M University data warehouses
  • Knowledge of reporting functions in university systems such as Maestro, Workday, FAMIS, Canopy
  • Knowledge of database development and use; Knowledge of Tableau, Power BI, Excel

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, maintains, and updates databases for highly complex projects for the Texas Sea Grant Program including financial data, research data, communications data, and extension data; Advises on data collection methods; Analyzes and interprets data, both quantitative and qualitative analyses; Develops databases and spreadsheets for data analyses, oversees the collection and analyses of data.

  • Prepares graphs, figures and tables; Compiles data into usable reports; Prepares, maintains, and presents historical and comparative data. Responds to requests for information and prepares ad-hoc reports and query analyses in desired formats;  Implements System policies and provides training to users on data management systems, collection of information, and resource development applications; Develops and performs needed assessments to identify problematic data, make corrections, and eliminate causes of data problems; Serves as a liaison with regards to data information needs.

  • Participates in Sea Grant management meetings, strategic planning meetings and reporting meetings. Represents Texas Sea Grant on relevant National Sea Grant committees relevant to reporting. Performs other duties as assigned.
