Department Summary
The Office of Marketing & Communications tells HSC’s stories, using creative ways to engage internal audiences, prospective students and community members. We map out and implement strategic marketing and communication plans in collaboration with HSC departments and schools to showcase the university and its work in education, research and health care.
Position Overview
The Sr. Communications Specialist responsible for social media will provide strategic direction for the implementation of best-practice social and online reputation management. This role is responsible for managing social media strategy, placement, messaging, monitoring and reporting on all of HSC’s main social media accounts, including Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube and LinkedIn. Additionally, this individual is responsible for creating and implementing a process to monitor and respond to online comments and reviews in a timely and professional manner. This position is responsible for generating positive exposure that enhances the reputation and name recognition of HSC through social media with a goal of increasing audience engagement and Newsroom website traffic, and attracting prospective students. The position is responsible for building a process for social media content development and approval. This includes executing social media strategies, and creating, editing and updating content for HSC’s social media channels, along with ensuring all inquiries are responded to in a timely and appropriate manner.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to interact with a wide range of UNTHSC personalities.
  • Ability to synthesize highly technical and scientific data and present it in a understandable format to a lay audience.

Job Duties


o
Create strategies for social media platforms and create and post content daily, keeping audiences engaged (Facebook, X, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram).
o
Develop a robust social media calendar that includes the main campus social media, as well as all other HSC profiles.
Develop, maintain and produce a social media tracking scorecard.
o
Monitor the HSC Newsroom for new stories and post to social media in a timely manner.
Attend on-campus events to shoot social media content and work with department leadership if any Newsroom-worthy stories come up.
o
Work with communications team to ensure the social strategy aligns with UNT System initiatives and corporate communications goals.
Edit copy as needed.
Assist with crisis communication as needed.
