Job Summary:

The Senior Cloud and Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing and maintaining both on-premises and cloud-based Linux infrastructure. This role entails close collaboration with various university departments and assumes the role of the primary Linux expert. The Senior Cloud and Infrastructure Engineer will develop solutions that align with service performance requirements, organizational financial and security considerations, and stakeholder needs.
A key aspect of this position involves researching emerging technologies and engaging with vendors to create efficient Linux-based solutions while optimizing the allocation of University resources. Operating with autonomy and minimal senior supervision, the Senior Cloud and Infrastructure Engineer will impart their expertise to the ITS Infrastructure Operations team, providing guidance on implemented practices. Additionally, they will serve as a point of escalation, offering third-tier support and advice to Infrastructure Operations (tier 2) and the support center (tier 1) for incident resolution and proactive infrastructure performance monitoring.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in managing production cloud infrastructure (or 9 years if substituting experience for educational requirement)
• Strong expertise in designing, building, and optimizing Linux virtual machines within cloud infrastructures.
• Proficiency in load balancer solutions and related tools.
• Extensive experience with automation tools, such as Ansible, for streamlining workflows and enhancing operational efficiency.
• Solid understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Kubernetes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in a timely manner.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
