Job Summary
 

The Business Intelligence Developer position will work as part of a team and under specific direction to build Business Intelligence (BI) and other analytic applications, using best practice approaches and a structured project methodology, work under the guidance of a manager or technical lead to support and maintain analytic applications using a coordinated, ITIL-based support model, participate with team members to enhance analytic systems to achieve an integrated reporting and analysis environment, work with University users to effectively leverage analytic systems and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, builds, and maintains beautiful and functional visualizations (reports and dashboards).
  • Solves complex problems and identifies opportunities for technical improvement and performance optimization of new and existing systems.
  • Reviews and tests code to ensure appropriate standards are met.
  • Profiles data and document objects, business rules, and caveats.
  • Performs and documents data analysis, data validation, and data mapping/design.
  • Partners with IT teams and business professionals to establish data-driven policies and strategies across the organization
  • Works to achieve an integrated reporting and analysis environment, effectively leveraging analytical systems and tools.
  • Participates in requirements analysis.
  • Engages in translating requirements into a scope document.
  • Liaise with users to ensure deliverables are meeting or exceeding expectations.
  • Provides break/fix support and communicates issues to users as defined by IT Services standards.
  • Administers access control.
  • Troubleshoots and tunes BI and analytic applications.
  • Implements training and help-desk activities.
  • Participates in planning, testing, and roll-out of patches and upgrades to the BI and analytic software.
  • Provides support related to software installation and troubleshooting, performance monitoring, data downloads, etc.
  • Participates in the development and promulgation of BI and analytic system standards and procedures.
  • Works with users to ensure deliverables are meeting or exceeding expectations. Provides support and communicates issues to users as defined by IT standards.
  • Plans, tests and guides roll-out of patches and upgrades to the BI and analytic software. Solves problems in the development and interpretation of BI and analytics system standards and procedures.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Prior experience in business, information management, or related field.
  • Prior experience designing and building dashboard and reports deliverables using Tableau or Business Objects.
  • Prior experience working within the ITIL framework including incident, service, problem, and change management processes and procedures.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of Tableau.
  • Business Object knowledge.
  • Working knowledge coding with SQL to profile data and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of higher education administrative systems, data, and business processes.
  • Understanding of project management methodology.
  • Application development skills primarily focused on BI tools, but are not limited to Business Objects or Tableau.
  • Expertise using both formal software lifecycle development and project management.
  • Develop applications (e.g., requirements gathering and analysis, framework, deliverable development, testing, etc.).
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office including Excel.
