Position Focus:

Yale is seeking a dynamic, seasoned Senior Business Systems Analyst to serve on the Health Sciences Information Services (HSIS) team. Reporting to the Director of Health Software Solutions and Engineering, and in partnership with the principal data architect, the candidate will meet with key stakeholders in the Yale health campus to collect, collate and analyze their data needs and create high-quality business requirements documentation for the Enterprise Data Warehouse initiative and will inform the strategies for a Yale Health Sciences Analytics Platform.

HSIS at Yale supports the School of Medicine, School of Public Health, School of Nursing, and Yale Health. This position will be part of the team that will create a unified Data Architecture and Data Warehouse across Health Sciences to support those units with a focus on 5 key business dimensions: Finance and Administration, Education, Clinical, Research and Faculty Affairs. As Senior Business Systems Analyst, the candidate will coordinate extensively with key stakeholders in each of the units and in each data domain to gather requirements, analyze business needs, and collect and analyze both structured and unstructured data to inform the data model design.

The candidate will be responsible for communicating consistently and effectively with the stakeholders during the development of the Enterprise Data Warehouse and while fulfilling maintenance requests. The candidate will conduct interviews with stakeholders in each unit to understand their data needs and document business rules and data sources for key metrics and KPIs. They will also be developing the W5H (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How) documentation of data needs for each of the data domains. The senior business system analyst will be responsible for creating a traceability matrix of requirements and will guide the QA team in developing a test strategy and test cases. The candidate will serve as an intermediary between the stakeholders and technical team, to translate business needs into technical requirements. The candidate will also support the Director in developing a prioritization framework with representation from each health sciences unit to define the scope and priorities for this project.


Essential Duties

1. Develops the initial project charter and clarification of the project scope, requirements, measurable outcomes, and project deliverables. 2. Works with respective process owners and using the business analytics, prepares the associated business case. Documents the “as is” and “to be” business processes using standard process modeling tools and process improvement methodologies. 3. Conducts thorough business case and external customer value analysis to determine selection, prioritization positioning and approach for broadest range of potential solutions (e.g., outsourcing, process improvements, and technology solutions). 4. Communicates compelling and concise analysis to enable business owners to make well informed decisions regarding options for problem resolution and opportunity realization. Reviews system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested system change is possible within existing system and is within the scope of the current project definition. 5. Gathers, compiles, and produces relevant business analytics on departmental performances including production of Performance Metrics and opinions/suggestions for improvement opportunities. 6. Develops and delivers quality analysis, reporting and presentation materials. 7. Responsible for requirements prioritization and solution risk analysis 8. Fully integrates baseline and metrics tracking into initiative planning and execution for optimal results. 9. Designs, plans, communicates and executes the departmental readiness plan. 10. Oversees, develops, facilitates and delivers training plans. 11. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in business, technology or related field and six years of related work experience in analysis of business needs and development of related business systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated ability with collecting requirements and artifacts for data warehouse design and implementation.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Expert in working on complex projects that require a high level of coordination among multiple workstreams.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Expert level skill in MS Excel, Vision, and PowerPoint.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Proven experience working as Business Analyst in Higher Education or Academic Medicine.
