Job Description Summary
The Associate Director provides leadership for Venture Lab's key strategic priorities through the design, launch, delivery, management, growth, and end-to-end operations for a portfolio of co-curricular programs and awards including the new $2M Gender Diversity in Entrepreneurship initiative, Bet on Entrepreneurship (BoE), Shils Zeidman Fellowship, and Loveman and Startup Internship Awards.
The new Gender Diversity in Entrepreneurship initiative is a comprehensive program with multiple program elements that involve internal, cross-organizational partnerships and external stakeholders. This initiative will focus on supporting Penn women and their allies and Penn student ventures supporting those groups. The Associate Director is responsible for developing workshops and advising opportunities; creating community with Penn student clubs and affinity groups; developing and launching a new Bridge Funding award, and liaising with students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The Associate Director will collaborate with Venture Lab staff (e.g., marketing, operations, analytics, etc) to promote these initiatives, lead engaging presentations, create data driven reports, and develop creative ways to connect with a broad range of audiences.
The Bet on Entrepreneurship program provides rising 2nd year Penn undergraduate students who identify as first-generation, and/or lower-income (FGLI) with a summer immersion placement at a Bay Area-based venture capital firm. The Associate Director is responsible for partnering with University faculty, Penn First Plus, Wharton STEP, donors, venture capital partners, and other stakeholders. The Associate Director will also manage marketing in partnership with Venture Lab's marketing team, application and selection by a committee, program communications, workshops, summer programming, travel, and housing logistics, vendors, reporting, award disbursement, and all other program logistics. The Associate Director will also be responsible for assessing program expansion, developing the strategic approach and expansion plan, and executing the plan.
The Associate Director will administer several Venture Lab awards, including the Shils Zeidman MBA Fellowship, Loveman Undergraduate Award, and Startup Internship Award. This includes marketing, application and selection processes, communication with stakeholders, award disbursement, data tracking and reporting. The Associate Director will be responsible for stewardship of all donors for the related awards, and will be the liaison for Wharton External Affairs and Development and Alumni Relations. This role will also be tasked with identifying opportunities for improvement, assessing options, and executing on selected plans.
The position is responsible for budget management and creation of annual work plan for the identified programs, preparation of management reports, development of performance measurement plan and tracking of key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve, iterate and scale programming. The position requires frequent interaction with seasoned, accomplished alumni entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and other professionals, including significant donors.
While the schedule is generally business hours, the ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekend hours is needed. This position is located in Philadelphia on Penn's campus, and is required to travel to the Wharton San Francisco campus periodically. After successful completion of the introductory period, this position is hybrid eligible with some weeks requiring more in-person work as needed. This position is contingent on continued funding.
Job Description
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 5-7 years of experience are required, preferably in a university setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's Degree a plus.

  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to design and deliver offerings for under-served populations; in entrepreneurial setting a plus
  • Demonstrated interest entrepreneurship through an educational lens

Preferred:
  • Previous experience in working with women entrepreneurs and their allies
  • Previous experience working with first generation, low income university students
  • Ability to manage online platforms, websites, and CRM tools such as Eventbrite, Salesforce, Brightspot CMS
  • Technical proficiency in data collection and analysis tools like Pitchbook, SurveyMonkey Apply, and Qualtrics
  • Data-driven mindset with experience in data collection, management, and analysis
