Position Focus:

The position is key to the success of the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs. Working in concert with the Senior Director of Development, the Senior Associate Director will plan and initiate objectives and strategy to accomplish the goals of the department. These include: staffing and developing the Board of Advisors, working closely with foundation donors, and collaborating with Yale Central Development on new prospects. This position is also responsible for writing and editing and serving as the Managing Editor of the Schools' Annual Magazine.


Essential Duties

1. Identifies and analyzes corporate/foundation prospects. 2. Makes initial, exploratory and actual solicitation visits to corporations and foundations. 3. Decides merits of projects to be presented to donors for their consideration. 4. Assesses and matches projects according to donor preference and University need. 5. Recommends to higher-level authorities the appropriate interest match with University capital, program and curricula needs. 6. Plans and executes fund raising programs 7. Directs efforts of researchers and writers in gathering and circulating information about prospects. 8. Supervises a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 9. Attains fund raising goals from corporations and foundations. 10. Conceives and develops appropriate strategies for soliciting funds from corporations and foundations. 11. Meets fund raising goals for prospects. 12. Fosters and maintains positive donor relations. 13. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and six years of development experience or other related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Editing and writing skills along with the ability to develop interesting content suitable for web and non-web distribution.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Superior demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Excellent proofreading and editing skills. Proven ability to adapt to changing technologies.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to effectively deal with all levels within the organization.


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Proven ability to multi-task and work independently. Demonstrated ability working in a fast-paced team environment with multiple priorities and deadlines. Proven project management experience.
