Senior Associate Director of Campus Recreation

Working collaboratively with, and reporting to, the Senior Director of Campus Recreation, this position is one of two senior associate directors who serve on the senior staff team providing high-level leadership for the department. Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides recreational programs, facilities and services to the campus community through the operation and administration of the following: Aquatics, Club Sports, Fitness and Wellbeing, Intramural Sports, the IM Building, McCoy Natatorium, Outdoor Adventures, the Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area, Tennis Center and White Building.

Responsibilities of the Senior Associate Director include, but are not limited to:

  • Management, direction, and support for the day-to-day operations of all assigned units
  • Collaborative management for marketing and communications efforts
  • Oversight of the department-wide student development program
  • Development, management, and oversight of assigned budgets in excess of 7 million dollars
  • Direct supervision, mentorship and support of 3 Associate Directors
  • Indirect supervision, mentorship and support of 13 full-time professional staff and more than 400 student employees in assigned areas
  • Leadership, guidance, and active participation on work teams and committees within the Department, Division of Student Affairs and the University

The position requires:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher and 8+ years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional education and experience is preferred
  • Independent work on complex assignments, while reviewing progress and updating the Senior Director, as appropriate
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • A willingness to lead and work in a team-based environment
  • An eagerness to support and engage with all departmental initiatives and efforts, in addition to Student Affairs
  • The ability to foster a positive climate among a diverse group of staff, student employees, and participants
  • Experience managing collegiate recreation unit areas with full-time staff supervisory and budgetary responsibilities

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
