Position Summary

The mission of The Eugene Lang Entrepreneurship Center is to instill entrepreneurial thinking in all Columbia Business School students and alumni, in order to create a community of business practitioners with a lifelong commitment to achieving social and economic progress through entrepreneurship. Columbia’s approach to developing the entrepreneurial mindset is integrated throughout the core MBA curriculum, crossing all disciplines, and extends to both students and alumni through co-curricular programming, coaching, and other support.

The Senior Associate Director, Alumni and VC Programming, is responsible for post-graduation programs for the Lang Center, focusing on alumni and related initiatives, as well as Venture Capital initiatives for both students and alumni. Current programming the Senior Associate Director oversees includes but is not limited to:

  • The Lang Fund (our venture capital fund) selection process and ongoing portfolio management, in conjunction with the Lang Faculty Director and Lang Center Advisory Board
  • The Columbia Venture Fellows program
  • The Columbia Alumni Virtual Accelerator (CAVA)
  • Columbia Startup Lab
  • Launch of the new Alumni Community Network (Nexus)
  • CBS Alley at TechDay NY conference
  • Monthly Lang Talk webinars
  • Alumni entrepreneur/startup support and communication
  • Executive Education and Alumni Edge course offerings relevant to the Lang Center

Reporting to the Director, the Senior Associate Director’s core responsibilities include annually developing and overseeing the efficient execution of the above programming, including special events, competitions, mentor panels, and information sessions, while working creatively to enhance the efficiency of Center programs and procedures. 


Responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees the success of alumni and VC-related programming, to the benefit of both CBS alumni and student communities, working with Lang Center team members as appropriate.
  • Builds and strengthens alumni relationships, maintaining an active and up-to-date database of alumni in the entrepreneurial and VC communities that supports and aligns with the goals and priorities of the Center.
  • Plans, manages and executes major events for the Lang Center including alumni networking nights, the annual Greenhouse reunion, TechDay NY, etc., with input and assistance from the team. This includes working with mentors and judges, student and alumni organizations, and venue logistics.
  • Develops and manages support structures for Alumni startups and related ventures, including resources, contacts, and mentors as appropriate. Maintains Business School and University resources available to alumni and facilitates connections for alumni entrepreneurs.
  • Identifies and coordinates opportunities to involve alumni and innovation community in Lang Center marketing and PR. Identifies communications and content opportunities from Alumni startups and clubs, corporate partners, and external sources.
  • Works on additional projects as assigned and shares in the responsibilities of other staff members as a flexible team player, including the execution of all Lang programs and faculty and student-related activities as required. Performs other related duties and special projects for the Center as required.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum 4-6 years related experience required.    

    Must possess strong management and communication skills, as well as direct experience working with entrepreneurs or within the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Independent, strategic mindset with a detail-oriented work ethic required. The candidate must have the ability to meet deadlines and exercise judgment working with all levels of staff, faculty, alumni, students, and outside partners.  Must have experience with Microsoft Office and web tools. Must possess a high level of initiative, enthusiasm, and commitment, including a demonstrated interest in and passion for the startup ecosystem.


    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience in entrepreneurship, venture investing, or the innovation economy strongly preferred.
