Senior Associate Director, Admissions

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Dean of Enrollment Management and Director of Recruitment and Selection, the Senior Associate Director will serve as a senior member of the Office of Admissions leadership team. They will provide high-level management of key project areas, including all aspects of diversity recruitment and initiatives, in-person and virtual events, Questbridge application process, Barnard scholars program review, and new staff training and onboarding. The Senior Associate Director will ensure that staff are meeting objectives and goals; provide leadership in supervision and project management oversight; and is responsible for developing and implementing programs and initiatives. The Senior Associate Director will report to the Director of Recruitment and Selection and also participate fully in all aspects of the admissions recruitment and selection process.

Job Description:

The Senior Associate Director will be solely responsible for the oversight of following major project areas: 

·       Diversity recruitment and outreach; Develop, manage and coordinate diversity outreach and recruitment strategies in partnership with the Dean of Enrollment Management and Director of Recruitment and Selection to expand Barnard’s visibility among high-achieving, under-represented student populations, including historically under-represented communities of color, members of indigenous tribal communities, first generation to college students, low-income students, and rural students; create program and recruitment initiatives for Questbridge and Coalition for Access; provide guidance, training, and direction to admissions staff regarding inclusive outreach strategies to underserved populations as part of travel and recruitment; partner with Director of Recruitment and Selection to provide professional development for staff on diversity and inclusion topics; develop partnerships with key college access organizations; collaborate with the Dean of Enrollment Management and other staff on marketing, publications and communication strategies; Create reports and provide analytics on outcomes.

·       Leadership and oversight of all in-person and virtual events; Create yearly events calendar; Manage overall branding and strategy for events throughout the year; Create reports and provide analytics on outcomes; Manage budget and spending for events. 

·       Management and coordination of Questbridge selection process, including coordination with operations and financial aid staff; development and implementation of evaluation and training, including supervision of staff readers; hiring, training and supervision of part-time readers in collaboration with senior staff; development of QB reading schedule; Create reports and provide analytics on outcomes 

·       Management and oversight of Barnard scholars programs, including Opportunity Programs, Scholars of Distinction, Bridgewater Scholars and the Science and Environmental Science Pathways Scholars Programs; Liaise with faculty coordinators of each program to develop enrollment goals, recruitment strategies and events; supervise reading process, including training staff on nomination and selection; Create reports and provide analytics on outcomes

·       Management and supervision of new staff training and onboarding; Develop and implement onboarding training program, including documents and scheduling. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

·       Supervise multiple staff members, which may include full-time, part-time and graduate assistants

·       Represent the Admissions Office in all aspects of student recruitment, including making high school visits, attending national conferences and participating in special recruitment activities.

·       Read and evaluate first-year and transfer applications and serve as a chair of the admissions selection committee.

·       Handle telephone and email inquiries about applicants, requirements, status of applications, decisions, etc.

·       Represent the office, in the VP and Dean’s absence, at various meetings as instructed by the VP and Dean.

·       Provide input as a senior staff member on staff and departmental issues for the VP and Dean’s attention. 

·       Carry out other special projects as assigned by the VP and Dean.

·       Possess cross-cultural sensitivity

·       Effective and persuasive communication and interpersonal skills.

·       Ability to supervise a staff and direct the work flow of other staff members.

·       Strong written and verbal communication skills 

·       High personal energy level and stamina.

·       Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others

Qualifications:

·       Master’s degree in Higher Education and Bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts discipline or the equivalent. 

·       Eight years or more of experience in selective college or university admissions, with at least five years of demonstrated management experience.

·       Experience in staff supervision. 

·       Strong analytical skills paired with the ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research as well as the ability to interpret, summarize, and present outcomes.

·       Outstanding written and oral communications.

·       Proven ability to work collaboratively with varied and diverse constituencies including admission office colleagues, students, parents, coaches, alumni, faculty, secondary school personnel and related community agencies. 

·       Exceptional time management and organizational skills. 

·       Independent decision-making skills and strong sense of judgment and discretion at all times. 

·       Availability for travel and weekend projects as needed.      

·       Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Strong comfortability and familiarity with Technolutions Slate 

·       Experience leading group and individual staff trainings.

Physical Requirements:

·       Ability to lift items weighing as much as 25 lbs.

·       Ability to perform customary office tasks such as sitting, walking, standing, computing and answering telephone for moderate to prolonged periods of time combined with light to moderate reaching, bending and lifting.

Salary Range: $95,000.00 - $100,000.00

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
