Salary: Minimum salary of $69,348 for Senior Assistant Librarian or $79,560 for Associate Librarian, and an excellent benefits package. Salary and rank are dependent on qualifications and experience.

Position: Outreach Librarian

In support of its service and information literacy mission, the University Library at California State University, Northridge seeks a service-oriented and enthusiastic individual to provide research assistance, library instruction, and to coordinate outreach services in a comprehensive university environment. The selected candidate provides general and/or discipline-specific library and information literacy instructional services. Develops discipline-specific online research guides and/or digital learning objects (DLOs) in support of student research needs. Provides in-person and online/virtual reference and research assistance. Participates in collection development activities.

The selected candidate chairs the library’s Outreach Committee and coordinates the library’s various outreach efforts including library tours, library booths, library instruction for local high school students, and campus programming. Coordinates annual library outreach programming and events. Serves as liaison to the Northridge Academy High School and manages AP Book Borrowing program for San Fernando Valley high schools. Manages and writes for the library’s “Cited at the Library” blog.

This is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian level, with attendant expectations for professional competence, service, and scholarship. Some evening and weekend work is required. The successful candidate will be held to the standards and requirements of the college and department in which they are housed for recommending tenure and promotion.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school, or equivalent degree if earned from outside the U.S. or Canada;
  • Experience providing reference/research assistance in an academic library;
  • Experience providing information literacy instruction;
  • Familiarity with inclusive pedagogies and instruction practices in order to engage students who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional academic libraries;
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to effectively work with students from diverse backgrounds and to working in a diverse campus community;
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial and social justice;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills;
  • Commitment to engage in research and continued professional development worthy of promotion and tenure in the California State University system.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in outreach and marketing to students and faculty with a focus on equity and inclusion;
  • Experience designing intentional programming and creating collaborative partnerships with different units across campus and community organizations to support student learning, success, and equity;
  • Experience working with K12 students
  • Experience in developing digital learning objects;
  • Collection development experience;
  • Proficiency or fluency in a second language (eg American Sign Language (ASL), Spanish, etc)
