The Master of Science in Analytics (MScA) program is a graduate program within the Physical Sciences Division (PSD) and Data Science Institute at The University of Chicago. Based in the NBC Tower in downtown Chicago, the purpose of the MScA program is to train the next generation of data science experts for industries including but not limited to finance, healthcare, automotive, digital marketing, retail, and more. Job Summary
 

The Senior Assistant Director of Student Affairs leads and manages the MScA Student Services and Advising team in support of broader program- and division-level priorities and objectives. In collaboration with the Director Student Affairs and other PSD and university stakeholders, the Senior Assistant Director supports the MScA student affairs strategy to identify and implement best practices for supporting a diverse student population of part- and full-time learners in both the Online and In-Person MScA programs. The Senior Assistant Director manages a team of professional graduate student advisors who are responsible for monitoring the academic progress of students. The Senior Assistant Director is further responsible for building out the student affairs strategy for the Online MScA program, specifically, in collaboration with other MScA staff. The Senior Assistant Director will have the capacity to relate student affairs theory to practice in support of MScA student development to design and implement creative approaches to support a diverse student body.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the mission/vision for MScA student services and advising in collaboration with the MScA Director of Student Affairs.
  • Builds and sustains relationships with key student and academic affairs stakeholders across the university such as the PSD, DSI, Student Wellness, Student Disability Services, Registrar’s Office, Multicultural Student Affairs, Financial Aid, UChicago Grad, Bursar’s Office, and more.
  • Collaborates with the MScA Director of Student Affairs to design and implement advising programs and platforms with inclusive learning practices in mind.
  • Works in conjunction with the MScA Director of Student Affairs and other core MScA teams to enhance student services and advising for all learners (e.g., Instructional Services, Career Services/External Partnerships, Enrollment Management).
  • Participates in process improvement projects for programs that relate to critical student-life improvement, including emergency management, accommodations for students with disabilities, and/or the administration of health care services and programs for students.

  • Collaborates with academic divisions in educating students on safety issues. Interprets student disciplinary issues and prepares an annual university summary of disciplinary actions. Counsels students, parents, and staff in response to concerns, and handles complex situations including student crises.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Working Conditions

  • This position is eligible for a partially remote work schedule.
  • This position requires occasional work on evenings and weekends.
