AECOM is seeking a Senior Archaeologist/Geophysics Manager at our Burlington, NJ office. As a Senior Archaeologist the candidate will be required to manage and direct both Precontact and Historic archaeological projects - from proposal writing and budget management through report writing and getting project clearances. The candidate must be able to work well with clients, agencies, cultural staff as well as other co-workers within AECOM. They will have to mentor junior staff and delegate responsibilities while continuing to oversee the schedule and quality of work. AECOM has rigorous quality standards, and the candidate will be responsible for meeting this in both their technical work and professionalism.
As the Geophysics Manager, the candidate will need to have a thorough knowledge and understanding of terrestrial geophysical survey and analysis methods, digital data collection, and archaeological survey and technical writing. The applicant must have experience with geophysical methods including GPR and gradiometery. Preference will be made to those with experience with other geophysical methods. They must have an understanding of how to conduct geophysical field survey, collect accurate data, and post-process in RADAN or other applicable software.
Responsibilities for both roles include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as a Principal Investigator and have experience preparing Work Plans, designing research and field methodologies, directing field crews including scheduling work, making individual or teamwork assignments, and leading the instruction of others in the use of equipment, technology, and field methods, performing and overseeing data interpretation, overseeing report production, and making determinations of eligibility and client recommendations.
- Scope archaeological and geophysical projects and prepare technical and cost proposals.
- Conduct geophysical surveys, post-process data, and interpret the geophysical data with a specific understanding of cultural resources
- Mentor junior staff in all aspects of archaeological and geophysical investigations.
- Provide regulatory compliance support for Federal, state, municipal, and commercial clients.
- Support all phases of archaeological investigation.
- Collect information and make judgments through observation, interviews, and the review of documents.
- Write and review archaeological and geophysical reports and/or prepare archaeological site forms and make decisions about project alternatives, NRHP evaluations, and effects on historic properties.
- Work with technical field, lab and office staff, managers and administrative staff to ensure that projects meet AECOM quality standards.
- Have ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 50 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS + 6 years of expereince or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Minimum 4 years of supervisory, management, or teaching experience
- Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
- Valid Driver's License and must be able to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MA/MS or higher in Anthropology or a related and a minimum of 6 years of experience in geophysical and archaeological survey and analysis or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience; must have successfully completed an accredited archaeological field school.
- Technical skills including geophysical data collection, post-processing, and technical writing.
- Experience with GIS, GPS data collection, and databases.
- Demonstrated experience writing technical reports and papers.
- Experience with Federal clients.
- Experience with public outreach.
- Experience preparing technical proposals and cost estimates.

Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position typically is $73,000 - $96,000.
