About the Role:

The Project Technical Resources team (PTR) at Janelia is growing to support and collaborate with Team Projects and laboratories in several areas of expertise. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who will strengthen this effort in the area of 3D/4D image and video annotations by managing collaborative projects and a small group of technicians. This role is ideal for somebody with strong organizational skills, who wants to engage in innovative science and also enjoys guiding and developing others.

What You'll Do:

  • Liaise effectively with laboratories and Project Teams, in particular CellMap , to manage multiple annotation projects.

  • Manage a small group of PTR technicians involved in annotation projects, working closely with the Senior Manager of PTR.

  • Apply and gain further in-depth knowledge of using commercial and custom annotation software.

  • Contribute to data production by collecting relevant data from 2D, 3D or 4D images, anything from time series of animal behavior to neuron reconstructions to volumetric EM data.

  • Perform computer-automated analysis and quality control on large data sets.

  • Assess research demands and develop the team to meet these needs.

  • Manage project budgets.

  • May recruit new staff.

What You Bring:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in the field of biology, biomedical engineering, computer science or similar.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the area of image acquisition and computer-assisted image analysis.

  • Intermediate-level programming skills.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate efficiently with collaborators.

  • Track record of being a team-oriented colleague, working closely with others to achieve goals.

  • Interest in engaging in ground-breaking research in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Leadership and supervisory experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Good color vision, ability to visualize in 3D, ability to sit for several hours at a computer or microscope (with breaks), and fine motor skills required.

Compensation Range

$78,870.00 (minimum) - $98,500.00 (midpoint) - $128,040.00 (maximum)

Pay Type:

Annual

HHMI’s salary structure is developed based on relevant job market data. HHMI considers a candidate's education, previous experiences, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity when making job offers. Typically, a new hire for this position in this location is compensated between the minimum and the midpoint of the salary range.
