Job Summary
 

The job leads and provides expertise to the development of programs for data manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis and modeling in order to implement projects related to the University's various internal data systems as well as from external sources.

Responsibilities

  • The Senior Analyst is a member of the Strategic Research and Analysis (SRA) team and oversees data strategy, including data analytics, reporting and dashboards, and data management and migrations, for the Medicine and Biological Sciences Development (MBSD) office.
  • Working in SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence, SQL, SAS, Tableau, Microsoft Excel and Access, the Senior Analyst conceives of, implements, and manages dashboards and reports to meet the full scope of data needs across MBSD’s annual, major, principal, and planned giving efforts, as well as alumni relations, marketing and communications, and volunteer engagement.
  • Creates specifications for reports and analysis based on business needs and available data elements. Collaborates with University Alumni Relations and Development (ARD) Prospect Development and Decision Support on reporting standards.
  • Performs data analysis and develops insights to inform fundraising and engagement strategies and identify issues warranting further analysis for MBSD leadership. Establishes and implements protocols to prioritize, delegate, and track data projects. Ensures adherence to applicable University and Medical Center data governance and data stewardship policies, including HIPAA.
  • Oversees MBSD’s analytic services including data mining and trend analysis, complex list segmentation, predictive modeling, and financial forecasting.

  • Designs, implements, and automates dashboards and management reports to measure key fundraising metrics and progress toward individual, team, and MBSD-wide performance goals.

  • Advises on analytic approaches to monitor and evaluate relationship manager portfolio health, service line fundraising potential, campaign sizing and campaign pyramids, and other strategic planning and assessments.

  • Supervises an Associate Director, Advancement Analytics and may supervise up to two other individuals.
  • Oversees the Associate Director, Advancement Services’ administration of a SQL database. Advises on the design and maintenance of data tables and indexes; combining data from multiple tables using joins; and troubleshooting data issues as they arise.

  • Leads and develops methods to analyze complex data sets for the purpose of extracting and purposefully using applicable information. Develops and maintains infrastructure that connects medium to large complex data sets.

  • Provides expertise to staff or faculty members in defining the project and applies principals of data science in manipulation, statistical applications, programming, analysis and modeling.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education

  • A Master’s degree, preferably in mathematics, statistics, computer science, economics, or another quantitatively oriented field. 

Experience

  • At least ten years of experience in data analysis or reporting.  
  • Two years of experience in a not-for profit fundraising organization. 
  • Advanced experience with R, SAS, SPSS, SQL, or Business Objects and advanced proficiency in Excel and Access.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Word and Power Point.  
  • Experience working in a complex, hierarchical organization, private higher education, or academic medical center environment.

Preferred Competencies

  • An ability to communicate clearly and persuasively both orally and in writing. 
  • The position requires meticulous attention to detail, the ability to respond to constantly shifting priorities, to exercise sound judgment, to think creatively to anticipate problems and create solutions, and to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Willingness to develop and maintain proficiency in the University’s proprietary database systems is required.
