High Point University is currently seeking a full-time Senior Admissions Counselor for Westchester County, New York. This position serves as a member of the Admissions team in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. A Senior Admissions Counselor of Regional Admissions is responsible for effectively managing a geographic territory; developing and utilizing a strategic plan to assist in the recruitment process; and representing High Point University during on and off-campus events. An Admissions Counselor is also responsible to identify, recruit, admit, and enroll academically qualified students in accordance with the philosophy of the University. This position will keep in frequent contact with students, parents, and counselors from his/her territory, demonstrating a level of understanding and sensitivity to the needs of all students.
This position will effectively manage a remote territory (Westchester County, NY) and supervises a region for recruitment of prospective students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • The candidate must reside within the assigned territory region (West Chester County, NY).

Experience and Training

  • Three to five years’ admissions experience in College/University setting with direct experience in the field of recruitment of students.
  • Individual must possess good verbal and written communication skills and be computer literate.
  • Must work well independently and in groups.
  • Experience in counseling, sales or customer service with an entrepreneurial spirit is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office product and the Internet
  • Ability to travel extensively.
  • Valid driver license with good driving record; must be insurable.
  • Ability to be productive and motivated from a remote position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :  

  • Creates Strategic Plan for attracting students with the right academic qualifications, from target high schools in assigned territory.
  • Sets goals for assigned territory about inquiries, applications, campus visitors, accepted students and enrolled students.
  • Works and lives in territory, participate in regional admission activities and events to help with High Point University’s recognition within the region.
  • Makes travel arrangements and manages travel schedule to visit target schools within travel budget.
  • It is anticipated the position will require 3-6 trips back to campus for training, updates and assisting with on-campus programing within an academic year that could range from 3 days to over 1 week depending on the needs of the office.
  • Builds relationships with key high school guidance counselors and independent counselors in assigned territory to connect with the right fit student; invites counselors to visit campus or attend a Counselor Open House at HPU
  • Builds relationships with prospective students and their families through in person and virtual meetings, and all forms of communication- phone, text and email to explain the value of a High Point University Education through admissions funnel.
  • Manages evaluation of all completed files within assigned territory; makes initial admit/deny/waitlist decisions for prospective students.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of the University’s admissions standards, academic and extracurricular programs and able to articulate the value of a private school and High Point University education.
  • Handles assigned duties during Admissions Events during the year: Open Houses, Presidential Scholarship Program, Innovation Summit, Admitted Student Days, Spirit Event, etc.
  • Contributes to Admissions Team efforts by assisting counselors with remote responsibilities through recruitment committee membership/support, virtual information session coverage, answering phones, etc.
  • Manages responsibilities and follow up within office CRM (Technolutions Slate) to document relationships, maintain accurate data, and other essential information.
  • Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers, and managers.
  • Night and weekend work is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
