Job Description:

The KCU Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for a variety of accounting functions related to financial reporting, financial data and analysis, transactions, and financial statements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with supervision and review of detail processes to ensure accuracy, controls and process improvements
  • Perform accounting functions as assigned including, but not limited to, a variety of complex accounting, budget development, analysis, and monitoring work related to financial and accounting transactions
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries and imports throughout the month and assist with monthly close
  • Maintain General Ledger and Chart of Accounts
  • Assists with the year-end audit, providing detailed reconciliations, roll-forwards and analyses of account balances and trends
  • Ensure that all deliverables comply with internal and external regulatory guidance and professional standards
  • Gather, organize, analyze, and present varied financial data.
  • Provide guidance, training, and work reviews for accounting staff; and advice and consultation to management and CEO
  • Identify problem areas of situations, evaluate root cause(s), and take appropriate action to resolve issues
  • Back-up duties to manager
  • Review and process A/P invoices and internal expense reimbursements to ensure proper approval, documentation and general ledger account distribution
  • Maintain and update vendor database
  • Review and process A/R to ensure proper cash receipt application and general ledger account distribution
  • Assist with the preparation of annual 1099 reporting
  • Prepare journal entries and imports throughout the month and assist with monthly close
  • Analyze account balances, prepare reconciliations and propose adjusting entries as needed
  • Assess efficiency and effectiveness of accounting processes, investigate best practices, suggest improvements, and assist with implementation of process changes
  • Other analysis and special projects as assigned
  • Prepare annual 1099 reporting ensuring deadlines are met
  • Rotate through various accounting functions to gain experience and knowledge of all department functions, systems, and processes
  • Perform accounting functions as assigned including, but not limited to a variety of accounting transactions and reconciliations related to cash, accruals, Inventory, A/P, Fixed Assets, Gifts and Purchasing
  • Assists with banking activities and reconciliations
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of financial statements
  • Back-up and month-end duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Accounting/Finance preferred
  • CPA or advanced degree preferred
  • 3+ years of Accounting experience
  • Experience with grant accounting and OMB compliance preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Ability to make decisions regarding matters of significance
  • Self-Starter, customer service and process improvement focused and professional attitude
  • Ability to solve problems, prioritize and multi-task in a deadline driven environment
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies
  • Work with little to no supervision
  • Able to work in a team environment and interact closely with team members
  • Goal oriented, with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to interact effectively and work efficiently with people at all levels in an organization
