Senior Accountant, Finance / 财务部基金会会计

Under the supervision of the Head of Financial Reporting and Taxation, the senior accountant is responsible for account keeping and general ledger reporting of the Foundation, covering a broad range of financial matters within the entity; and performing monthly tax filing for both the Foundation and NYU Shanghai, and draft financial reports for both entities, including but not limited to monthly and yearly financial reports, investment proposals and other financial analysis reports.


The main responsibilities include:

Accounting (50%)

  • Manage and Oversee the entire accounting work of Foundation.
  • Record accounting for the Foundation, including preparing and submitting accounting journals in the finance system.
  • Handle filing of original finance documents related to donation contribution as supporting documents to each journal.
  • Perform daily and weekly reconciliations of banking transactions (Wechat account, Alipay, Bank transactions); and prepare the reconciliation draft report every month.
  • Assist G/L accountant with month-end and year-end close.
  • Work directly with G/L accountant to identify, address, and resolve financial issues
  • File accounting voucher and documents timely each month.
  • Reconcile the donation information with bank statements, maintain financial information in the file which shared with Foundation operating team for each donation, issue donation receipt to donor, update the receipts number to operating team, and maintain the receipt printing device and software.

Financial analysis and reporting (20%)

  • Communicate with donors regarding the financial details and record information into accounting system.
  • Draft financial statements for each reporting period, such as monthly and yearly financial statements, and management required statements.
  • Prepare donor report monthly.
  • Support in investment analyses and fund management by collecting market information, investment performance data and relevant analysis following the Foundation’s investment policy and draft appropriate products analysis report to department head and investment committee per required.

Taxation (20%)

  • Coordinate with monthly tax filing for both the Foundation and the University
  • Prepare for annual tax filing for Foundation and help to collect information for annual tax filing for the University.
  • Prepare required documents for annual tax exemption status review.
  • Prepare required documents for pre-tax deduction qualification status.
  • Other task required by taxation team or tax bureau.


Relationship maintenance (5%)

  • Act as the contact person for outbound transactions, including visiting tax bureau, banks, and civil bureau.
  • Attend the Foundation weekly meeting, and communicate financial status updates to the Foundation operating team, and share the weekly meeting minutes within the finance department.
  • Maintain constant communication between all other stakeholders and NYU Shanghai Finance Office.
  • Maintain connections with the investment office and treasury team of NYU, keep good relationship with current and new investment institutes
  • Liaise with the Foundation’s external auditors ensure that all the financial dealings are transparent accountable, and stand up to scrutiny. .
  • Assist in document preparation for the Board of Directors Meetings and the Board of Supervisor Meetings.


Other ad hoc issues (5%)

  • Support tasks and responsibilities as required for the finance department;
  • Participate in activities required or promoted by the University and the Foundation;
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses as required.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams to achieve shared goals.

Required Education

  • Bachelor or above in relevant field;
  • Accountant qualification certificate. Possessing a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or equivalent is preferred.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ full-time work experience in accounting related roles. University, Foundation and Nonprofit-organization experience is preferred


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Language proficiency in both English and Mandarin;
  • exceptional computer skills in using MS Office and Finance software, preferably with certain ERP system (e.g. SAP, Workday, Oracle).
  • Consistent, accurate, and thorough with an eye for details.
