Senior Accountant

Summary:

Review, develop, implement and maintain financial and operational policies, practices and procedures. Maintain the Banner grant module. Review daily banking detail. File unclaimed property. Assist with various functions in the Finance Office. Reconcile and report monthly sales tax and quarterly restaurant tax.

Minimum Qualifications Required: 

Education required to ensure success in this position:
•Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, required;

Experience required to ensure success in this position:
•Three or more years related experience, with substantive knowledge and experience across a wide variety of accounting functions.
•Excellent interpersonal skills, diplomacy, ability to develop positive working relationships.
•Eagerness to participate in continuing education

Special skills, knowledge and abilities: 
•Interact with integrated computerized financial system;
•Ability to work independently and collaboratively, establish priorities, work under pressure of deadlines, and excellent follow-up skills;
•Strong analytical skills;
•Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
•Ability to write clearly and effectively, editing work for spelling and grammar;
•Ability to do tasks without constant direct supervision
•Able to present numerical data effectively;
•Foster an environment of strong ethics and integrity;
•Practical knowledge of business processes and fixed assets is highly desirable.

License, certification, or registration necessary: 

•CPA preferred.

•Ability to operate office equipment and cope with long work days

•Interactive office environment

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment: 
•Various office equipment: personal computer, printer, calculator, copy machine, etc.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. •Assist Controller in cash management and banking relationships.
•Provide customer service and assistance to faculty/staff relating to banking and accounting matters.
•Assist Lead Accountant with various functions; responsible for journal approvals.
•Maintain the Grant module of the Banner system.
•Assist in year-end financial audit requests.
•Ensure all documentation complies with College regulations, professional standards, and FASB and GAAP reporting guidelines and assist in establishing and strengthening internal controls.
•Coordinate projects to automate processes and implement new technologies in order to improve financial and operational efficiencies.
•Monitor and file unclaimed property with appropriate state agency.
•Monitor and file monthly sales tax and quarterly restaurant taxes with appropriate state/local agency.
•Research and pay weekly Sodexo invoices.
•Research and pay monthly CUSA invoices.
•Research and pay monthly WEX invoices.
