About the Department
 

Student Disability Services (SDS) is located within Campus and Student Life. SDS is responsible for engaging in an interactive process with students to determine their eligibility for reasonable accommodations under the Rehabilitation Act Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act. The SDS team is committed to advancing disability inclusion in all aspects of campus life through the implementation of supports, services, and auxiliary aids. The SDS team serves more than 10% of the UChicago student body, ensuring students have access to the outstanding programs and services that the University offers.


Job Summary
 

The position will report to the Associate Director of Student Disability Services (SDS) and will work collaboratively with hired proctors; coordinates the daily operations of the proctoring services portfolio; administers the provision of testing services, as appropriate to students receiving reasonable accommodations under the Rehabilitation Act Section 504 and ADA including; liaising with University IT Services, Facilities, faculty and instructional staff; area Deans of Students, other academic appointees, and other administrators; ensure the timely arrangement of exam accommodations for eligible students; leads the hiring and training of proctors; and coordinates the assignments and schedules of supporting proctoring staff. This position will also provide administrative support for Student Disability Services program; perform administrative responsibilities; assist SDS staff in ensuring the timely and effective delivery of accommodations to all eligible students. This is a 12-month, full-time position; weekend and evening hours may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees exam accommodations to ensure arrangement in a timely and effective manner for eligible students, and timely confirmation of those arrangements with all pertinent parties.

  • Assesses service delivery model and establishes key performance indicators for the testing portfolio; reviews data for feedback survey and makes decisions regarding process improvements; proposes systemic changes to SDS leadership.

  • Hires and trains proctors to support the implementation of student exam accommodations.

  • Coordinates and schedules proctored exams, including part-time staff workloads and hours.

  • Assists with the management of the physical office space and test locations, including setting up the testing sites, ordering testing equipment and supplies, as needed.

  • Establishes, revises, and documents all exam proctoring policies and services which reflect best practices among peer institutions for testing accommodations and exam services.

  • Facilitates meetings with academic division leaders and faculty to establish memorandums of understanding and discuss proctoring policies.

  • Creates and revises all exam services communications and forms for students and faculty.

  • Takes the lead in expanding testing services offerings, including space and academic department outreach and partnership building.

  • Educates students in the proper use of assistive technology and exam technology, as necessary.

  • Coordinates quality assurance reviews and recommends changes as appropriate.

  • May interact with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work or information.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:

  • Associates degree.

Experience:

  • Coordinating complex scheduling of 50+ services efficiently using a database to manage workflow.

  • Coordinating and/or scheduling support services.

  • Direct experience working with testing services, exam proctoring, or a related service.

  • Arranging accommodations, or working with and/or on behalf of individuals with disabilities.

  • Working in higher education disability services.

  • Coordinating and/or scheduling student services in an educational setting.

  • Training individuals with diverse learning styles.

  • Previous work experience in a related disability services role.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Excellent computer skills including working with a wide variety of software programs such as Adobe Pro, People Soft Applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Applications.

  • Familiarity with available Microsoft Office software and assistive technologies.

  • Use databases, experience with assistive technology and/or computer skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of disability accommodations and best practices in the provision of services to students with disabilities in a college setting.

  • Knowledge of best practices and innovations in the field of higher education disability services.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication to maintain good working relationships with students, faculty, staff and other constituents.

  • Work under pressure in a demanding academic environment; demonstrate decisive insight and develop novel approaches to achieving access.

  • Utilize sound judgement to make reasonable decisions.

  • Takes initiative, highly motivated, conscientious, organized, has a strong work ethic, dependable, reliable, highly adaptable, and enthusiastic.

  • Demonstrated skill in monitoring systems and services to judge effectiveness and make improvements.
