As part of Berkeley Lab's Summer Technology Transfer Internship, you'll be engaged in a range of exciting activities:

  • Learn all about tech transfer, gaining practical skills in Intellectual Property, Licensing, and Market Analysis. Grasp the ins and outs of turning cutting-edge research into real-world applications.
  • Explore the realms of semiconductor and microelectronics technologies. From the basics to the latest advancements, you'll gain valuable insights and knowledge.
  • Work on commercialization and start-up plans. Put your creative thinking to the test and envision how groundbreaking ideas can make an impact in the market.
  • Take on the challenge of market research, explore data and trends to uncover valuable insights. Sharpen your analytical skills and gain a deeper understanding of the industry landscape.

 

Here's what you can expect during your internship:

  • Kick off your week with a focused Monday morning lecture, setting the stage for the week ahead and outlining key deliverables.
  • Hear from two different guest speakers each week, offering diverse perspectives and insights into the industry.
  • Engage in weekly one-on-one meetings to receive personalized guidance and support tailored to your goals.
  • Collaborate with your peers during Wednesday's working sessions, fostering networking opportunities and lively discussions.
  • Wrap up the week with Friday's deliverable presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions, where you'll showcase your progress and learn from your peers.
  • As an intern, your commitment to attending all meetings, completing assigned tasks, and collaborating effectively will be key to making the most of this experience.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently a junior or senior enrolled full-time in a related accredited undergraduate program.
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.
  • Ready to dedicate up to 40 hours per week this summer.

 

Desirable qualifications:

  • Knack for promoting ideas and products.
  • Experience with research and analysis.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel).
  • Ability to visualize data and concepts (graphic design and web development experience).
  • An understanding of semiconductors and microelectronics.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with fellow innovators in cross-discipline teams as well as independently towards a goal.
  • Juggle multiple projects and deadlines like a pro! Your organization and prioritization will keep us on track for greatness.
  • Enthusiasm for science and technology.

 

Notes:

  • This program will run from June 4, 2024 to Aug 2, 2024.
  • This position will involve access to hardware, commodities, and technical information subject to export control regulations including, but not limited to, the Export Administration Regulations ("EAR") and/or International Traffic in Arms Regulations ("ITAR"). Accordingly, any hiring decision may depend in part on Berkeley Lab’s ability to obtain or rely on federal government authorizations as required, if you are not a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S. (“green card holder”), asylee, refugee, or other qualifying protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
  • Salary will be predetermined based on student step rates.
  • The starting hourly wage for this position ranges from $18.07 to $23.42, depending on the number of years of education completed by the applicant. Candidates should note that they are responsible for covering their own housing and travel expenses.
  • This position may be subject to a background check. Any convictions will be evaluated to determine if they directly relate to the responsibilities and requirements of the position. Having a conviction history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being considered for employment.
  • The position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, combining teleworking and on-site work at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab in Berkeley, CA. Work schedules are based on business needs. Individuals opting for a hybrid schedule must reside within 150 miles of Berkeley Lab.
