Position Overview
This is a student support position facilitating leadership development training and experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate students within the Self Engineering Leadership Fellows (SELF) Program.
The SELF Program is a four-year co-curricular program that provides passionate and highly motivated engineering and computer science undergraduates the chance to challenge themselves as they develop on their leadership journeys and gain experience in entrepreneurship and business skills. Facilitators are responsible for seminar facilitation, individual coaching, mentorship, and advising, as well as creating and executing educational projects and activities designed to develop students into entrepreneurs and future business and industry leaders. Beyond the classroom, facilitators support student engagement in service learning projects and a host of other experiential opportunities. The SELF Program provides incredible opportunities for amazing, motivated students as well as the talented professional staff who work with the program and those students.
There are two facilitators: this one, which works with freshman/sophomore cohorts, and a parallel position which works with the junior/senior cohorts. The Program Facilitator position works closely with the Director and the other Program Facilitator to plan, implement, and assess programming for the SELF Program.
The position involves growing knowledge and developing skills related to managing multiple projects, the ability to plan small and large-scale events, and understanding of college student development. The SELF Facilitator will actively seek out and incorporate current leadership, entrepreneurship and business practices and skills from engineering, technology, and business work environments. They will interact with faculty, staff, and industry professionals in support of the Program and its Fellows. Facilitators will oversee the Fellow-led Project Teams in major SELF Program activities ensuring that scope is appropriate, project management tools are applied at a basic level, and that key deliverables are identified and achieved. The Program Facilitator will have primary responsibility for program initiatives occurring during the freshmen and sophomore years as well as some program-wide initiatives.
More information about the SELF Program can be found here: http://engr.ku.edu/self/ .
This position is a full-time regular appointment. Some travel as well as occasional weekend/evening work will be required as the needs of the position demand.
