The SOC Coordinator is a member of the George Washington University Police Department, and reports regularly to the SOC Manager. This position will serve as the primary Tier III contact for all safety and security systems that are managed by the GW Police Department. This individual must possess a solid understanding of the installation process and lead installations in order to provide Tier III troubleshooting and trialing of issues as they arise and must have strong knowledge of low voltage security systems. The ability to succeed in a cross-functional teamwork environment (GW IT, University Card Office, Academic Affairs, etc.), strong customer-service skills, and attention to detail essential for this position.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Serve as the primary application administrator for video and alarm systems to include but not limited to responsibilities such as account creation, management, group memberships, recorder and camera firmware updates, camera naming, diagnostic monitoring, and management of responses by both GW IT and third-party vendors.
  • Interact with the alarm maintenance personnel to coordinate and create reports on monthly and semi-annual inspections and alarm tests within University buildings to determine whether safety hazards exist regarding fire, intrusion, panic, emergency exit, and door prop alarm systems.
  • Serve as the Project Manager for all physical security projects in coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Partner with GW IT and the CCTV maintenance to coordinate the installation, operation, and maintenance of CCTV systems.
  • Provide maintenance support to GWPD personnel and GWPD partners for CCTV system (cameras, video recording servers, encoders, and video management servers).
  • Working knowledge of current physical security hardware and software in use on University campuses to provide Tier III support, including but not limited to CCTV systems, videos, alarms, and other security infrastructure.
  • Interact and maintain strong relationships with all University departments and outside merchants.
  • Oversee the planning process for the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of safety alarm systems.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with contractual services.
  • Monitor the daily operations and the end-to-end process for all projects leveraging third-party vendors.
  • Coordinate and participate in investigations of fire and intrusion incidents that occur in University buildings as needed, including the preparation of all reports for internal and external use.
  • Manage and escalate service tickets with GW IT and/or Facilities Planning & Construction Management as needed.
  • Assist in identifying, developing, implementing, and maintaining security processes and measures aimed at mitigating security risks. This is to include staying up to date on industry standards and advances.
  • Conduct physical security site surveys and technology discovery initiatives in support of the overall physical security of the University.
  • Collaborate on the development and presentation of training procedures/instructions on the use of existing security technology and GWPD resources available to the campus in community outreach.
  • Research and conduct data to prepare documents and executive summaries for review by senior leadership.

This position is designated as Essential Onsite which means this position perform essential core safety and operational functions and typically need to be on campus even when access to campus is restricted. (For example: these employees reported to work daily throughout the pandemic – lab personnel, EHS staff, police officers, facilities staff among.)
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or greater in a related field is desired.
  • Genetec certification is desired.
  • CCNA or equivalent certification is strongly desired.
  • FLETC Physical Security Training Program (PSTP) or equivalent is desired.
  • Project Management experience is preferred. CAPM or PMP or equivalent certification is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of networking comparable to a Cisco CCNA certification, Junos OS, and Microsoft Windows and applicable software are desired.
