Security Officer

Primary Function: The Security Officer provides customer service, greets, assists, and answers inquiries and concerns of employees, students, and visitors.  The position is responsible for protecting University property from theft, vandalism, fire and damage.  The incumbent responds to inquiries, concerns and emergencies in accordance to University rules regulations and policies.  The position cares for any injured person, may administer first aid or assists emergency medical units or law enforcement as needed. Completes and submits daily reports.

Essential Functions:

Patrol and Assistance

  • Moves about the campus to greet, assists, answer inquiries and concerns of employees, students, and visitors.
  • Assists employees, students, and visitors finding classrooms/facility location, equipment, personnel, etc.
  • Escort employees, students, and visitors to vehicles upon request.
  • Assists employees, students and visitors with car problems.
  • Supervise vehicle towing when authorized.
  • Patrol dorms on a regular basis to insure safety of students.
  • Secure buildings at the end of business.
  • Be aware of weather conditions to detect adverse conditions that require communications and direction to employees, students and visitors.

Monitoring

  • Monitors internal/external building security and fire control systems.
  • Monitors buildings facilities, parking lots, and grounds on foot to enforce Company rules, regulations and policies; summons medical, law enforcement, or additional security assistance as needed.
  • Monitors building automation alarms and notifies appropriate person with the nature and location of the problem.

Emergencies

  • Receives medical emergency calls; determines location/nature of emergency and if an ambulance is required; calls medical emergency for assistance.
  • Cares for any injured, administers first aid or assists emergency medical units as need; assists law enforcement as needed.
  • Promptly reports fire, personal injury, theft, safety hazard, security violation, trespassers etc., using established policies and procedures.
  • Assists in internal or external evacuation of facilities in event of emergency; directs traffic; or secures areas from intrusion.

Bank Escort

  • Provides money escorts throughout campus.
  • Provides daily bank deposits for the university.
  • Reporting
  • Completes and submits daily activity reports.
  • Submits reports for various incidents that occur on campus and dorms

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High School education or its equivalent required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of security experience or related background required.
  • Must have and maintain a vehicle driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Previous experience with fire control systems and automated security systems preferred.
  • CPR and First-Aid certification is desirable and must be accomplished within six months of employment.
  • Familiarity with and the ability to follow safety and security procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of facility, location of intrusion detection systems, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, safety devices, equipment and emergency exits.
  • Ability to deal with issues with considerable tact and diplomacy in order to avoid escalating situations and to facilitate to resolve problems.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student accounts and information.
  • Excellent customer service skills to enhance interaction with employees, students, and visitors.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal/communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team effort.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail, good organizational skills with the ability to ensure accurate and timely reports.

Working Conditions:

  • Winter and summer months may result in exposure to uncomfortably cool and warn conditions.
  • Continuously standing and walking; occasionally climbing and sitting.
  • Occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.
