Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is one of the nation’s premier academic pediatric programs. Its clinical and educational programs are consistently rated among the top ten nationally by US News and World Report. The Department is also a leader among Child Health research programs ranking third in the nation in the most recent listing of top National Institutes of Health funded Pediatric Departments with over $63 million in active NIH awards. The Department is seeking qualified candidates for the Head of the Section of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado.  

We are seeking a leader with a vision towards advancing clinical care, research, and education to further the mission of the Section as a premier program for Pediatric Endocrinology. The Section of Pediatric Endocrinology has a diverse faculty with a balance between clinical services and research. There are eighty-eight faculty, fellows, postdoctoral fellows, research personnel and staff in the Section. The Section is also the academic and administrative home to the Department’s Biostatistical Core team. This team, accounting for twenty-two PhD or masters trained biostatisticians, provides consultative biostatistics service to support child health faculty and fellow research projects in addition to their own extramurally funded work.  

The Section Head will be responsible for ongoing program development, overseeing clinical practice programs, enhancing the multi-disciplinary clinical and research programs, overseeing the fellowship program, and fostering strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the programmatic and financial operations of the Section to ensure financial and human resources are available to support research, clinical care, educational, and advocacy/policy activities.
  • Develops innovative clinical, educational and research programs to enhance the local standing and national reputation of the Section.
  • Directs the Section’s educational and clinical training programs, inclusive of residents, medical students, fellows, and post-doctoral researchers.
  • Supports faculty recruitment and the infrastructure for faculty development.
  • Builds and maintains partnerships with affiliate institutions and community organizations locally, nationally, and internationally, including direct collaboration with Children’s Hospital Colorado Leadership and the University of Colorado’s Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes.
  • Establishes strong metrics and outcomes for clinical and academic performance.
  • Provide leadership and support for Section, Department, and University Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and programs. 

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

On the research front, programs of excellence have been established in the pathophysiology and psychosocial aspects of obesity and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents, the development of efficient and cost-effective approaches to endocrine diagnosis to replace older stimulation testing protocols, and hormone function, metabolic health, and neurodevelopment in children with X&Y chromosome variations, including Klinefelter and Turner syndromes.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:  

Associate Professor:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD/DO) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
  • MD/DO candidates: Board certification in Pediatrics or a pediatric specialty.
  • Licensed or able to obtain licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • 6-8 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary academic pediatrics program.
  • Eligibility for appointment at the Associate Professor rank.
  • MD/DO candidates: Independent care provider who is highly skilled in the management of Endocrinology services for pediatric patients.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience with and commitment to faculty career development through mentoring.
  • PhD candidates: History of strong and continuous extramural funding and academic success in an area related to the section's research strengths. 

Professor

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD/DO) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
  • MD/DO candidates: Board certification in Pediatrics or a pediatric specialty.
  • Licensed or able to obtain licensure in the State of Colorado.
  • 9-10 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary academic pediatrics program.
  • Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Professor.
  • MD/DO candidates: Independent care provider who is highly skilled in the management of Endocrinology services for pediatric patients.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience with and commitment to faculty career development through mentoring.
  • PhD candidates: History of strong and continuous extramural funding and academic success in an area related to the section's research strengths.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    MD/DO

    • Associate Professor:  $225,000 - $245,000
    • Professor:  $295,000 - $315,000

    PhD

    • Associate Professor:  $180,000 - $200,000
    • Professor:  $240,000 - $260,000

    The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
