Description

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Infectious Diseases, is seeking a Scientist I. The position will provide research support and research lifecycle management: especially regarding grant writing, study preparation, program and data management, writing, analysis, and research communications. The position will also have influence on assisting with management and support of the research portfolio, writings of the lab, and related tasks.

General Responsibilities

  • To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in a particular field of specialization.

  • To plan, coordinate and conduct research.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs and implements the development and revision of research papers.

  • Provides oversight and guidance on manuscripts prepared by lab staff, identify, and submit to relevant publishers, and ensures all written content meets publication standards.

  • Designs and implements structured data collection plans for research studies, conducts basic data analyses, and audits data to maintain high standards of accuracy and reliability with an emphasis on qualitative data collection and analysis.

  • Prepares reports for PI with an emphasis on qualitative research.

  • Manages and makes recommendations for the research portfolio, drafts and revises grant proposals with input from the PI and assists the PI in seeking funding to support research initiatives.

  • Oversees the preparation of IRB submissions, manages regulatory documentation, and ensures adherence to ethical guidelines and compliance standards.

  • Holds discussions and strategic planning with team members. Guides junior research staff in developing their methodological skills and professional competencies, fostering a supportive and collaborative lab environment.

  • Delivers presentations at scholarly and professional venues, effectively communicating complex research findings to diverse audiences.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Annual Salary Range $63,125.00 - $80,000.00



    Qualifications

    • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience

    • OR M.D. and Master's degree.

    • OR Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience

    • OR Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
