The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Preventive Medicine, is seeking a is seeking a Scientist I  

Under the supervision of the BBSF director, collaborate with Cancer Center investigators in areas such as: early phase clinical trials, large multicenter trials, observational studies including comparative effectiveness research and population-based epidemiologic. The Research scientist will be responsible for original statistical and collaborative research, data analysis, and software development. Supporting developing and reviewing clinical trial protocols. Supporting the preparation of grant applications and research publications. Consulting with clinical, basic, and translational scientists involved in clinical trials, population-based epidemiologic studies, and laboratory investigations.

  • To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a particular field of specialization.
  • To plan, coordinate and conduct research.

Key Duties & Responsibilities  

  • Plans, coordinates and conducts scientific research requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard scientific techniques, writes grant applications, carries projects to completion and supervises/trains employees and students.
  • Designs, performs and/or oversees experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control and protocol compliance.
  • Collects, analyzes and interprets data; prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs.
  • Supervises and/or performs equipment maintenance, operations and quality control procedures.
  • Performs and/or oversees new research procedures.
  • Serves as principal investigator on sub-projects of complexities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Annual Salary Range   $63,125.00 - $103,700.00

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience  
    • OR  M.D. and Master's degree.  
    • OR  Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience  
    • OR  Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience 

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. 

     

    Preferences

    • Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, or related field with experience in publications, statistical research, real data analysis, and algorithm development.

    Key Skills

    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • The ability to work independently and collaboratively are necessary.
    • Experience utilizing a statistical software package (SAS, R) required.
