The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Scientist I to manage the day-to-day activities of the UAB Adapted Human Performance Laboratory in the UAB Research Collaborative and Center for Engagement in Disability Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (CEDHARS).

General Responsibilities

  • Assisting faculty and students in adapting research protocols for inclusion of people with disabilities.
  • Managing adapted testing protocols and interventions for people with disabilities.
  • Supporting faculty and students in developing and conducting research on people with disabilities and chronic health conditions.
  • Maintaining testing equipment including wearables and test kits used to conduct remote testing, training students on adaptive testing methods, assisting with IRB protocols, and growing an expansive research portfolio across the UAB campus among faculty and students interested in disability research.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities  

 

  • Responsible for monitoring UAB researchers and students involved in CEDHARS pilot projects to ensure they are on schedule and appropriately adapted for children and adults with disability.
  • Strategize with project staff to solve issues or prevent any delays in completion of the goals and scope of work for the projects.
  • Assist with implementing telehealth testing, and onsite and remote training in the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD) and Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RecTech).
  • Assist with grant writing and development.
  • Some travel may be required to help oversee program implementation or attend conferences related to this research and implementation science program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Annual Salary Range   $63,125.00 - $103,700.00

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience  
    • OR  M.D. and Master's degree.  
    • OR  Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience  
    • OR  Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience 

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. 

     

    Preferences

    • Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology or related field with minimum of five (5) years' experience running a human performance lab.
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with people with disabilities in testing and implementing health/wellness programs.
