The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is a vibrant community of exceptional scientists and clinician-scientists who recognize the fundamental importance of diversity as a key driver of innovation in science. Members of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology conduct basic, clinical and translational research. Our faculty are open, collegial and committed to supporting each other’s scientific and professional growth. We are searching for a Scientific Grant & Communications Writer to join our team. Telecommuting or hybrid are possible for a highly qualified candidate.
Responsibilities
- Managing Grant Proposal Development- leads and manages research development with faculty in the preparation of new and ongoing individual investigator-led NIH grants including editing, writing, and coordinating research- and grant-related documents to support the Department’s research efforts. Compiles and organizes proposal materials.
- Grant Writing- develop templates and draft language for non-technical sections of proposals, including logic models, timeline, facilities and management plans.
- To work closely with faculty in the design and creation of new, innovative training grants in areas relevant to women’s health.
- To work with faculty in the preparation of new and ongoing manuscript submissions.
- To identify funding opportunities, locate suitable applicants, provide support with proposal preparation, and work with investigators and other staff to ensure timely submission of proposals to maximize external research funding.
- To develop and implement writing strategies for the efficient preparation of strategically aligned, consistently framed and properly positioned scientific writing deliverables.
- Faculty Professional Development- Creates and delivers informational sessions on funding opportunities and guidelines, proposal development, broader impacts and funding agency communications.
- Perform other related duties to the work described herein and inline with the office’s mission.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years related experience
- Three years of experience in successful (funded) grant development, writing individual and team proposals and facilitating submission of grant proposals.
- Experience in writing grants, including NIH R01 proposals.
- Experience writing and editing research manuscripts.
- Experience managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. Strong customer service orientation to understand and assist a wide range of internal faculty.
- Requires a highly organized, enthusiastic and personable individual with strong writing and presentation skills as well as previous grant writing/submission experience.
- Requires flexibility and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize among a large number of diverse responsibilities.
- Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment as well as work collaboratively and adapt to changing processes and procedures.
- Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills required.
- Capability to work both independently and as a team member in-person and remotely, ability to multi-task and respond professionally in challenging situations is essential.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Outlook, Excel, and Word)
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced life sciences (MD or PhD)
- Experience writing and coordinating multidisciplinary sponsored research and private grant proposals with multiple collaborators for a variety of funding sources.
- Experience using and implementing collaboration and document management platforms, such as Sharepoint, Teams or similar for project management
