Join our dynamic team at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL ) Materials Sciences Division and be at the forefront of cutting-edge research! We're currently seeking a Scientific Engineering Associate to contribute to our innovative work at the Center for High Precision Patterning Science (CHiPPS).

 

As a Scientific Engineering Associate, you'll play a pivotal role in advancing our research efforts. You'll be involved in various aspects of process development, lithography, patterning, and clean room activities to support our mission of pushing the boundaries of materials science.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and optimize lithographic processes including spin coating, annealing, exposure, and development.
  • Work on process development for new lithographic materials to drive innovation.
  • Perform Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) characterization for detailed analysis.
  • Contribute to thin film deposition, Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), and Plasma Etching processes.
  • Conduct image and data analysis to derive meaningful insights.
  • Prepare reports, deliver presentations, and effectively communicate results to stakeholders.

 

What is Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in clean room activities, lithography, and device fabrication.
  • Proficiency in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM).
  • Familiarity with Python programming for data analysis.
  • Experience in Plasma Etching, materials characterization, and TEM sample preparation.
  • Knowledge of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS).

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with EUV lithography

  • This is a full time 2-year, term appointment with the possibility of extension or conversion to Career appointment based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs.
  • This position is expected to pay $80,784- $82,000, which fits within the full salary range of $80,784- $136,368 for the N50.1 job code. Salary for this position will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualification and experience, including skills, knowledge, relevant education, certifications, and aligned with the internal peer group.
