Summary of Duties:

This position will perform professional-level work in support of the research activities in tree crops in Washington. The incumbent will perform a wide range of duties including field and laboratory analyses to accomplish research goals; field experiment set up; developing field and laboratory protocols; collecting, processing, and analyzing data; statistical analysis; preparing graphics and reports; troubleshooting and maintaining computers and laboratory equipment. A high level of capability in computer software (spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation) and the ability to learn new software is required. Additional requirements include the ability to locate and purchase supplies, schedule and execute activities independently, and learn new procedures and protocols. Experimental and analytical skills, precision, reliability, understanding and knowledge of research theory, excellent organizational skills are also required. The incumbent will lead the activities of hourly workers, and work with other technical staff and scientists to achieve project goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.

  • Master’s degree in science, laboratory experience and knowledge performing professional-level work with scientific research protocols. 

  • Experimental and analytical skills, precision, reliability, understanding and knowledge of research theory, excellent organizational and project management skills. Technical editing experience and advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license at time of hire.

Monthly Salary:

$3,900.88 - $5,613.47

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
