Summary of Duties:

The Scientific Assistant will work independently as directed by the Principal Investigator (PI) in the development and design of research projects, protocols and experiments in circadian clock and cancer research, Dr. Yool Lee.
The position will modify and adapt experimental protocols, techniques and procedures to specific project requirements. Design, coordinate and conduct experimental procedures. Construct transgenic mice and perform tumor formation analysis in vivo. Independently perform research activities and data analysis.
Work with the Principal Investigator to prepare research results and written summaries of results in manuscript form for publications and in graphics form for presentation at research meetings and for grant proposals. Maintain and ensure compliance with regulatory protocols and records related to biosafety and radiation material safety.
This position will have an initial one-year appointment with potential for renewal.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in the area of Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Tumor Biology or other related area.
  • Experience in the field of molecular and/or cellular biology (examples include: cell culture, DNA cloning, WB, qPCR, FACs, genotyping, or related).
  • Research experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and ability to take appropriate autonomous initiative to carry out study related functions.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Firm understanding of research methods, protocols, procedures, techniques, and equipment within specified area of specialty.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently design and implement standard research protocol within area of specialty. Knowledge and understanding of scientific method.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate empirical data and develop graphic and/or written interpretations and conclusions.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite required. Experience with data spread sheet development, specifically Microsoft Excel and Prism.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends on occasion to meet the needs of the project.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience authoring professional presentations or peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and manuscripts.
  • Research experience with cell/tissue culture, transfection, RNAi, CRISPR/Cas9, molecular cloning, retrovirus and/lentivirus production, PCR, real-time PCR, flow cytometry, western blot, co-immunoprecipitation (IP), ChIP, fluorescence/confocal microscopy, as well as animal handling, genotyping, and behavioral tests.

Monthly Salary: Minimum: $3,750.85, Midpoint: $4,574.20, Maximum: $5,397.56

Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
