Position Details:

Summary of Duties:

The research technician will perform laboratory, greenhouse and field research for a USDA-NIFA project titled “Drought Shapes The Dryland Root Metabolome And Microbiome To Protect Against Biotic And Abiotic Stress”.  This research will be performed in collaboration with WSU Department of Plant Pathology and the USDA-ARS Wheat Health, Genetics and Quality Research Unit, whose mission is to provide solutions to growers of dryland crops in the Inland Pacific Northwest. Specific research will focus on bacteria and fungi that colonize plant roots and may make the plant more resistance to drought.  It will involve isolation, characterization and testing of specific microbes, through DNA sequencing and metabolomics.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in microbiology or biological engineering laboratory after completing bachelor’s degree.

Monthly Salary:

$3,750.85 - $4,162.53

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
