Position Highlights

The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) at the University of Arizona (UArizona) invites applications for the position of Scientific Analyst I. The person in this position will perform epidemiological and statistical analyses of data on heat and health outcomes for SCORCH project 2. They will also coordinate with other core leads and participate in study activities for community engagement.

This is an Extended Temporary Employment (ETE) position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Utilizing standard epidemiological practices, gathers and analyzes temperature and health data from Arizona Department of Health and meteorological data (daymet) for performing epidemiological analyses of the relationship between temperature exposures and health. Performs statistical and/or mathematical programming in R, develops reports and visual representations. Reports will be submitted to Dr. Furlong and reviewed by the broader P20 SCORCH study team. Data will be interpreted and documented.
  • Ensures data integrity and quality, under supervision of PI evaluate data integrity by running code and checking distributions and missingness of key variables.
  • Advises and assists investigators in determining the appropriate statistical methodology to meet their study needs and objectives; uses various statistical and mathematical software packages to summarize and interpret statistical results; and designs, implements, and coordinates study activities and process improvements.
  • Collaborates with supervisor and other stakeholders to understand project goals and objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with programming in R.
  • Familiarity with statistical approaches for public health.
