Science Lab Technician (Federal Work Study)

Primary Function:  The Natural Sciences Student Lab Technician role provides support to faculty and staff within the CST Natural Sciences Laboratories in their daily operations under supervision.

Essential Functions:

Assist Science Lab Assistant

  • Preparing chemical solutions and reagents
  • Preparing and sterilizing media
  • Ensures proper inventory control
  • Cleans and sterilizes work areas as directed
  • Cultures and maintains living biological materials
  • Assist in field work and specimen collection
  • Operates and maintains related laboratory equipment
  • Maintains detailed records of laboratory activities

Assists Primary Investigators, Student Researchers, and Thesis Students

Participates in multiple active research protocols and experiments

  • Operates and maintains advance laboratory equipment
  • Follows detailed protocols pertinent to the task
  • Assists in set-up, maintenance, and tear down of long-term research experiments
  • Disposes of biological hazardous wastes from labs

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be enrolled in a Biology major.
  • Must have completed CH 115, General Chemistry
  • Must adhere to attendance as scheduled
  • Must possess strong attention to detail and good organizational skills with the ability to ensure accurate work.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee information.
  • Ability to work independently but as part of a team concept.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a typical laboratory educational environment.
  • Works with potentially hazardous materials.
